National Recovery Month, started in 1989 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), is observed every September to increase public awareness of mental health and substance use disorders and to celebrate individuals in recovery.
As we wrap up this year's Recovery Month, we are reflecting on the awesome work being done by our EPICC (Engaging Patient in Care Coordination) program.
EPICC utilizes peer recovery coaches with lived experience to connect patients facing substance use crises to community-based treatment, harm reduction education, and immediate resources. As part of their comprehensive outreach and harm reduction initiatives, EPICC has been working alongside public health networks to distribute free, publicly accessible Naloxone (Narcan) kits.
These kits can be found in Naloxone boxes across the community that have been installed by behavioral health and SUD prevention orgs. Swipe to see what these boxes look like, and learn where to find one near you at:

September is Healthy Aging Month!
Healthy aging is about more than just physical health. It includes our mental and emotional well-being, social connections, access to care, sense of purpose, and ability to remain connected to our communities.
For older adults, behavioral health is an important part of the picture.
At BHN, we strive to help improve health outcomes and strengthen the system of care for individuals in our community. This includes supporting regional efforts aimed at providing resources and care coordination for older adults.
Looking for resources for yourself, a loved one, or a caregiver? Swipe for some local and national resources to help you get started.

Throughout July, we have been asking BHN team members, "What is something about BHN that you want people in the community to know?"
This week, we asked Jeff, Peer Coordinator for the EPICC program. His response:
"To me, BHN is an advocate for the community. It is a home for innovative programs geared toward helping others in need and operated by those with a commitment to serve."

Throughout the month of July, BHN is asking team members, "What is something about BHN that you want people in the community to know?"
Today we asked Yolanda, Program Manager for the Maternal Health Access Project (MHAP). This is her response:
"What I’d like the community to know about BHN is that we’re here to make sure people don’t have to navigate life challenges alone. We help connect people to support, resources, and the right opportunities for care by bringing organizations, services, and communities together. Our goal is simple: make it easier to find help, build hope, and ensure fewer individuals and families fall through the cracks."
We couldn't have said it better, Yolanda!

Throughout the month of July, BHN is asking staff, "What is something about BHN that you want people in the community to know?"
Today we asked Phoenix, the Program Coordinator for the Bridges to Care and Recovery (BCR) program at BHN. This is her response:
"The thing people don't realize about Bridges [BCR] is that our trainings are actually open to anyone and everyone who is interested in learning more about mental health and su***de prevention."
Thanks for that reminder, Phoenix!
If you are interested in the BCR program’s mental health trainings and want to learn more, you may contact [email protected].
