"How does one become a resident with PCH?"

It's one of the questions we hear most. So, we put together a brief guide to walk through what the process could look like for an individual with intellectual and developmental disabilities looking for permanent housing with Promise Community Homes.

The most important aspect of the process is to contract services from one of our care provider partner agencies.

Why? PCH focuses exclusively on owning and maintaining homes customized for people with IDD. All in-home care and personal support comes from our incredible network of care provider agency partners, which means they are your first resource when exploring housing options for yourself or a loved one.

This past weekend, Promise Community Homes hosted our annual resident picnic!

The annual resident picnic invites residents from PCH homes across the St. Louis area, their direct service providers, and community friends to the PCH campus for a fun afternoon barbecue. Attendees ate hamburgers and hotdogs, plyaed fun yard games, got their faces painted, and even hung out with Fredbird and Louie!

The resident picnic is one of our favorite days of the year, offering the chance to witness firsthand why the work we do is so important.

Recently, one of our homes experienced a small fire.

We are deeply grateful that everyone in the house evacuated quickly and safely with no injuries. But unfortunately, significant damage to the inside of the home means the interior must be completely gutted and rebuilt.

Instead of just restoring what was there, we see this as an opportunity to reimagine the space with accessibility and inclusivity at its heart. With the help of our amazing partners at Trivers, this house will soon be equipped with widened doorways, accessible bathrooms, smooth flooring, and more.

What could have been just a setback is becoming a house designed intentionally for the people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who will soon call it home.

Promise Community Homes is honored to serve the specialized housing needs of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities for nearly 60 years. But what exactly is an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD)?

An intellectual or developmental disability is often defined as "significant limitations in intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior." This can shape things like conceptual (language, reading, number concepts), social (communication, interpersonal relationships, social judgment), and practical (personal care, money management, routines) skills.

One of the most important things note about a person with IDD is that they deserve the same basic human rights as anyone else, including the right to home. Yet people with IDD continue to face significant financial and societal barriers to securing accessible lifelong housing. That’s why Promise Community Homes remains committed to its mission, ensuring people with IDD have the same opportunities for safe, affordable, and well-maintained homes where they can truly thrive.

Longtime PCH resident and avid American flag lover, Mary, was greeted with a a special surprise earlier this week.

In honor of Labor Day and Mary's affinity for American flags, the PCH team lined the sidewalk in front of Mary's house with flags!

Mary loved the flags and the PCH team was so excited to be able to provide this special surprise for one of our residents.

✨ Getting groovy at our annual Trivia Night: Disco Edition, which helped raised imperative funds to support our mission
🏠 Closing on a new house in Jefferson County that will become the forever home for three new residents
💙 Continuing to provide affordable, accessible, and well-maintained lifelong homes for 300 residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the St. Louis area
