BrickPix

A broken monument. A donated repair. A perfect brick match. And a glimpse at where masonry technology is headed.

When the BrickPix™ team got a call about a damaged monument at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele, Missouri, we decided to donate our time and put BrickPix to work on a real masonry project from beginning to end.

Brendan and I documented the existing conditions, used BrickPix and MasonIQ™ throughout the process, worked through the materials and repair, performed the masonry work, and documented the finished result.

One of the coolest parts of the project was finding the brick.

We sourced Glen-Gery Vertical Red Scratch facebrick, and once it was laid alongside the original masonry, the match was about as perfect as we could have asked for.

That was a full-circle moment for me.

Trying to find the right brick for an existing building is the problem that originally led me to start BrickPix.

A big thank you to Glen-Gery for manufacturing the brick, MO Brick Masonry Supply Co. for supplying the brick and mortar, SPEC MIX for the Type N mortar, and Earthworks, Inc. for the Pewter Mist limestone.

Manufacturers know their products. Suppliers know what's available and how to get it. Craftsmen understand the existing masonry and how those materials need to come together in the field.

BrickPix isn't being built to replace that chain. We're building it to connect it.

This project also reinforced something important:
A photograph can tell you a lot about masonry. It can't tell you everything.

Once we started taking the monument apart, we could see, touch, measure and investigate things that simply weren't available from the original images.

Those field discoveries matter. The decisions the craftsman makes matter. Why those decisions were made matters. And the final outcome matters.

That's a much bigger part of where we're taking BrickPix and MasonIQ.

Imagine being able to carry that information through the entire life of a job:

Existing masonry → field evidence → material identification → manufacturer → supplier → craftsman → repair → documented outcome → knowledge preserved for the future.

That's the larger vision.

Not replacing the knowledge of the craftsman.

Capturing it. Connecting it. Preserving it.
Most importantly, we were able to give something back and help preserve a monument that matters to the families and community Mt. Zion Cemetery serves.

I'm proud of the work our team did here, and even more excited about what projects like this are teaching us about what BrickPix can become.

We're building AI with the trades, not just for them.
