Building One Community

Last week, B1C led a Community Rights and Preparedness Training at the Welcome Center. 🙏 We are grateful to board member Doug Penn for leading the session and to Superintendent Talley (Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D.) for addressing the group. Thank you to the Welcome Center for hosting us and for the continued commitment to our community.

Hispanic Heritage Month begins today. 🌎 The cultures, histories, and voices of the Latino community are not just part of our community; they are the heart of it. This month and every month, we celebrate them.

A welcoming community is one where every family has a fair opportunity to thrive. 🧡 For many immigrant families, accessing essential services comes with real barriers: language, limited information, unfamiliar systems, and uncertainty. During Welcoming Week, we want to highlight the work we do every day to break down those barriers and ensure no one has to figure it out alone.

Welcoming Week 2026 is here! This week we celebrate the work being done in our communities to become welcoming places for all, including immigrants. It is a beautiful opportunity to celebrate the richness of our cultures and stories, build meaningful connections, and strengthen a sense of belonging for everyone. Throughout this week we will be sharing stories from participants, perspectives from our staff, and highlights from our community partners. You are always welcome here. 🧡

Prepare now to keep your HUSKY D Health coverage in 2027 🩺 ➡ New federal Medicaid rules — which
go into effect this January — mean some HUSKY D members may need to report work, school,
volunteer, or other activities, and renew coverage every six months. Learn more about the changes: ct.gov/hr1help

✅ Add DSS to your saved contacts (short codes 60302 and 648731 for texts and 1-855-626-6632)
✅ Look out for HUSKY Health/DSS mail or texts
✅ Use DSS's prescreener tool to see if the new rules might apply to you: https://portal.ct.gov/husky/huskydprescreener

community action agency for more information and resources. The Department of Social Services (DSS)
will be sending more information later this year.
