🟣 An Empty Place at the Table. A Life That Matters. A Story That Deserves to Be Remembered.
This Domestic Violence Awareness Month ( ), Centre Safe’s Empty Place at the Table serves as a powerful reminder of the lives lost to domestic violence and the families, friends, and communities forever changed by that loss. The powerful display is now at YMCA of Centre County in Philipsburg and will be moving around Centre County throughout October.
Each empty place represents someone who should still be here. Someone who was loved. Someone whose life mattered. Someone whose absence is felt far beyond the space they once occupied.
As we reflect on these lives, we are reminded why awareness matters, why support matters, and why no one should have to navigate abuse or its aftermath alone.

We stand with Jane Doe. We stand with every survivor who is angry, heartbroken, or triggered by this story.
A former Cornell student has filed a lawsuit alleging that she was drugged and sexually assaulted by seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity in 2024. The lawsuit alleges that the accused students were offered the opportunity to mitigate their conduct by submitting essays to the University.
Survivors deserve accountability. Essays are not accountability. Silence is not accountability. Survivors should not be left carrying the consequences of sexual violence while institutions protect themselves.
We know how painful it can be to watch a story like this unfold publicly. The anger, grief, exhaustion, and memories it brings up can be overwhelming.
You do not have to keep reading. You do not have to watch every video or follow every update. Being informed does not require exposing yourself to content that is hurting you.
If this story has brought up questions or feelings about your own experience, Centre Safe is here for you.

Justice should never require survivors to sacrifice their dignity to be heard.
Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexual assault. His sentence is one moment in a movement built across generations by survivors, advocates, and communities demanding change.
Survivors have transformed how the world understands sexual violence, power, and accountability. Their courage has opened doors to healing, strengthened support systems, and pushed institutions to confront the harm they once ignored.
At Centre Safe, we believe survivors deserve justice that protects their dignity. Support and healing must remain available, whether a case is reported, prosecuted, or resolved in a courtroom.
The work continues:
Every time a survivor is believed.
Every time an advocate answers the call.
Every time a community challenges abuse.
Every time we choose prevention.
Together, we are building a future where every survivor has support, meaningful choices, and the freedom to heal.
We are here for you!

We all help set the tone in our communities. Speaking up and looking out for others can make a difference.
The beginning of the fall semester is often called the “Red Zone,” a time of increased risk for sexual assault among college students.
When jokes, comments, or actions disrespect someone’s boundaries, a simple “That’s not okay” can help challenge the behavior. You can also check in with the person affected or ask someone you trust for help. Choose an approach that feels safe.
Together, we can build communities where respect is expected, and support is easy to find.

Every advocate, every conversation, every safe place, and every resource can make a difference in someone’s journey toward healing and hope.

The Crime Victims Fund (CVF) is the primary source of funding for services that support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, trafficking, and other crimes. Yet today, the CVF is dangerously low, putting critical, lifesaving services and victims’ lives at risk.
Communities are already feeling the impact. Programs have been forced to reduce services, lay off staff, and, in some cases, close their doors entirely. Without immediate action, communities will feel less safe, and more survivors will be left without the support they need to heal, rebuild their lives, and get back to work.
The Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act ( ) offers a bipartisan, commonsense solution to stabilize the CVF using non-taxpayer dollars, ensuring continuity of services while Congress works toward a long-term fix.
The House unanimously passed the bill, and now, it’s time for the Senate to do the same! U.S. Senator John Fetterman Dave McCormick, Leader John Thune Senator Chuck Schumer Senator Chuck Grassley Senator Dick Durbin pass the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act now. Survivors can’t afford to wait!

TOMORROW! 🗓️ Join advocates across the country on September 23 for a National Day of Action urging the Senate to pass the bipartisan Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act ( ).
A 40% cut to victim services funding has already forced programs to lay off staff, cut services, and close their doors. The CVFSA can help stabilize funding and prevent further cuts.
Survivors can't wait for the services they need.
