Just after 10 p.m. this evening, Company 5 was dispatched to the 200 block of Locust Lane in the Borough of State College for an automatic fire alarm.

While responding, Engine 5-3 was advised that police on scene reported a working fire. Given the initial reports, Engine 5-3 upgraded to the 2nd alarm.

Crews arrived on scene with nothing showing but worked to establish a water supply and stretch an attack line given initial reports. Crews found a small extinguished fire and overhauled the area with a water can. The incident was held to units on the scene.

Multiple residents were evaluated by Centre LifeLink EMS on the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Centre Region Fire Marshal. Questions should be directed to the Centre Region Fire Administration via phone at (814) 237-4127.

Crews are clear of the scene and no further hazard exists in the area.

That's a wrap on Penn State Homecoming 2026!

From answering calls for service, including a number of automatic fire alarms, inside investigations, and reported building fires, to attending the annual homecoming parade and standing by at Beaver Stadium, crews remained busy all weekend.

More than 30 members spent their Sunday attending the Engine and Truck Academies, learning and sharpening skills. Crews will continue training throughout the semester to complete their respective academies.

Thank you to our mutual aid partners, especially Lock Haven's Engine-Rescue 42, Smithfield Company 10, Boalsburg's Engine-Rescue 3, and Pleasant Gap's Engine 8, who provided staffing and assistance at various responses throughout the weekend. We truly appreciate their support, especially on busy football weekends!

Take a look at what crews were up to throughout the weekend in Happy Valley!

Engine 5-3 was placed in service earlier this week and is assigned to the Borough Station.

Recently, 15 new members started their journey in the Engine Academy. Throughout the semester, these members will work on learning the ins and outs of the fire service, focusing on fire suppression and engine company operations.

Follow along throughout the semester as these Probationary Firefighters work on trading in their “blue hats” for a “black hat.”

In addition, 3 new members are working their way through the Fire Police Academy. These members will spend the semester taking fire police specific courses, including traffic incident management.
