At Beyond Strength we believe that life is better when a person’s body is physically capable. When a person’s body can’t hack it, they miss out on some of life’s best moments. When someone has strength, mobility, and endurance they are more involved with life and have deeper, more fulfilling experiences. Whether it’s a challenging hike with friends or an afternoon playing with their kids, no one s

We had a member say something interesting to us last week.

They said, “I know we’re supposed to work out whether we feel motivated or not. But it sure does help to come here and train with other great people. The energy helps. It’s motivating.”

Your job is to get yourself through the door and into the gym, whether or not you feel like it.

And on days when motivation is tough to come by…our coaches and the other great members at Beyond Strength will be there to share the energy.

Lift one pound less…

…than what’s on the bar.

It’s a great way to remember how to set your tension while deadlifting.

It causes you to “pull into the bar” and get your body tight.

This “gets the slack out of the bar.”

If you don’t get the slack out, the bar jolts you as you lift and can mess up your position.

It also causes you to lose force.

Instead of directing all of your energy from the bar, through your body, and into the floor, you lose it in the slack.

So, lift one pound less.
Then lift the bar.

Jim “The Boss” Draughn says it’s Monday, the sun is shining, and it’s a good day to get some work in.

Lift. Run. And take it all in.

Jump, then…

Have yourself a little drink.

Power training is a big hole in a lot of training programs.

They have heavy and high-rep weight lifting.
They might even have some running.

But they skip the true power work, and that’s a big mistake.

Being powerful is important.

It gives you the juice to turn it on when running or when hiking uphill.

It keeps your nervous system tuned up so you don’t get hurt when you move suddenly.

And it’s a huge necessity for longevity.

Want to be as capable as possible?

Jump. Throw. Sprint.

The Other 165 Hours: Why Gym Workouts Alone Won’t Build Lasting Strength and Endurance - Beyond Strength 07/10/2026

The average member at a boutique or specialized gym trains 2 to 3 days per week. Let’s be kind and call it 3 days. There are a lot of reasons why that’s the case. Some are nothing more than well-formed excuses that people conjure up because they don’t want to do more. Others are legitimate time constraints. But there’s another reason that’s suspicious. They’re sold that training 3 days per week in the gym is enough to get them the results they want. That’s rarely true, especially if a person wants to improve their strength and endurance.

The Other 165 Hours: Why Gym Workouts Alone Won’t Build Lasting Strength and Endurance - Beyond Strength Your results depend on more than three gym workouts each week. Learn how to train smarter and build lasting strength and endurance.
