This Dell Alienware R12 gaming PC came to NCR Computers in Sterling, VA after a BIOS update appeared to start automatically. The system restarted during the update and then lost all video output.

The customer tried Dell’s BIOS recovery process using a USB flash drive, but it didn’t work. After another local repair shop couldn’t resolve the issue, a friend who had previously trusted NCR Computers referred him to us.

We also identified an SSD-related fault contributing to the motherboard failure.

We explained the repair options to the customer. Since the PCH required advanced board-level repair, he decided to replace the motherboard.

We installed the new motherboard and completed benchmarking and full stress testing to verify the system was stable and operating properly before returning the Alienware R12.

A customer found NCR Computers in Sterling, VA through Google after his HP Envy PC suddenly shut off and would not power on.

His biggest concern was his data.

Because the system used BitLocker encryption, preserving the original motherboard was especially important.

Our technicians performed a motherboard-level power-sequence diagnosis and traced the missing RTC power requirement to a microscopic 0402 pull-up resistor that had failed open.

Using precision micro-soldering, we replaced the failed resistor and thoroughly retested the motherboard.

A customer brought this Ryzen 7 X870E gaming PC to NCR Computers in Sterling, VA after experiencing thermal throttling and excessive heat.

During testing, we found the PC was running unusually warm even at idle:

🔥 CPU: 48°C
🌡️ Motherboard: 37.5°C
⚡ MOS: 35°C

We also discovered a major chassis airflow problem.

All 9 case fans—3 bottom, 3 side, and 3 top—were running continuously at full speed and pushing air into the case. With little dedicated exhaust airflow, hot air had very limited paths to escape.

𝗪𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗟𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘇𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗜𝗜 𝗔𝗜𝗢 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄.

Instead of running the fans at a constant full-speed setting through the hub, we configured them for motherboard-controlled PWM operation, allowing each fan to adjust its RPM based on system temperature and cooling demand.

🌡️ After the AIO Installation & Airflow Calibration:

🔥 CPU: 48°C → 38°C
🌡️ Motherboard: 37.5°C → 25.5°C
⚡ MOS: 35°C → 21.5°C

The result is a more balanced, temperature-controlled airflow setup, with each fan responding to the system's cooling needs.

A customer brought an EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra 24GB GPU to NCR Computers in Sterling, VA after it suddenly developed a rattling noise. The GPU had been working normally until the problem appeared.

During testing, we found abnormally high GPU and hotspot temperatures. Stability and benchmark testing confirmed the temperature issue under load. We then took additional measurements directly on the GPU motherboard to identify the affected area.

We repaired the affected section of the GPU motherboard and applied fresh thermal putty and thermal paste to improve heat transfer.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀:

❌ Fans A & B were not spinning
❌ The fan C was running at full speed
❌ Abnormal temprature

𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿:

✅ All 3 GPU fans are spinning normally
✅ Rattling noise eliminated
✅ GPU temperature improved by 4°C
✅ Stability testing and benchmarking passed
✅ GPU returned to normal operation

This wasn't simply a fan replacement or thermal paste service. The repair required GPU motherboard-level troubleshooting and precision repair to identify and correct the underlying hardware issue.

After carefully opening the console, we found significant oxidation around the APU and heat sink, affecting proper thermal contact.

We cleaned the oxidation, removed the old liquid metal, and applied fresh liquid metal to restore proper heat transfer.

After reassembly and extensive testing, the PS5 maintained normal operating temperatures and ran normally again.

A customer recently walked into NCR Computers in Sterling, VA with a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15-inch laptop with a broken screen.

This particular model uses a fragile non-screw display assembly, so the screen requires careful handling during replacement.

We explained that the correct replacement screen needed to be ordered specifically for the laptop. Before placing the order, we explained that a 70% deposit toward the total repair cost was required, and the customer approved the repair.

Once the replacement screen arrived, we carefully installed the new display and completed the screen replacement the same day.

After testing, the display was working properly and the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 was back up and running.

A customer recently brought a PS5 to NCR Computers in Sterling, VA after a power surge left the console with no display and no normal startup.

The PS5 would beep when the power button was pressed, but there was no blue light and the fan would not spin.

We tested the PS5 power supply (PSU) and confirmed it was working properly. That led us to the motherboard and its power circuits.

Once the console was in our lab, we opened it up and checked the power section. The PSU tested good, but the PMIC (Power Management IC) had failed.

We replaced the failed Dialog DA9081 PMIC using precision motherboard-level soldering. After the repair, the PS5 powered back on and was working again.
