At Roots & Reefs Learning Adventures, children don’t just read about science—they experience it! Our students explore Florida’s waterways, catch and identify local fish, investigate marine habitats, test water quality, practice fishing skills, and discover the incredible creatures that call the Treasure Coast home.
Through hands-on adventures, children build confidence, friendships, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for God’s amazing creation. If your child loves being outdoors, getting a little messy, and learning through real experiences, Roots & Reefs may be the perfect fit!

🌊 Hands-On Environmental Science at Roots & Reefs! 🐟
This week, our students learned the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates while exploring crustaceans, mollusks, and their importance to our ecosystems.
Students discovered how these amazing creatures help clean the water, create habitats, and support food webs in marine, freshwater, and land ecosystems.
Of course, no Roots & Reefs lesson is complete without some hands-on fishing! We caught and identified speckled sea trout, snapper, croaker, toadfish, pufferfish, pinfish, and black drum.
Learning comes alive when students can explore, catch, observe, and connect with the natural world around them! 🎣🦀🐚
Woodworking Meets STEM! 🧲🧠
Today’s woodworking project turned into an awesome STEM challenge! Our students built a Balancing Nail Challenge and discovered that woodworking is about so much more than building—it’s also about science, engineering, problem-solving, and a little trial and error!
As they worked to balance the nails, students explored:
🔨 Woodworking skills – measuring, building & working safely with tools
⚖️ Science – gravity, balance & center of mass
🧠 Engineering – testing different designs and making adjustments
➕ Math – spacing, counting & measurement
💡 Critical thinking – figuring out why the nails can balance without falling
The best learning happens when kids can build it, test it, change it, and finally say, “I figured it out!” ❤️
