👨‍🚒FIREFIGHTERS OF THE MONTH - AUGUST 2026

Please join us in congratulating Lieutenant Augustin Fernandez, Firefighter/Paramedics Eddie Twist, Kyle McCaghan, and Edgar Mendez!

On July 13, 2026, Rescue 72 and Engine 72 were dispatched to a patient actively giving birth in a vehicle parked on the side of a roadway. Upon arrival, both crews immediately assessed the situation and quickly recognized that delivery was imminent. The crews provided exceptional patient care while efficiently coordinating their efforts to ensure the safety of both the mother and her yet-to-be-born child.
Rescue 72 rapidly packaged the mother for transport while continuing to monitor her condition. Just prior to arriving at the hospital, the infant was successfully delivered in the back of the rescue unit. Recognizing the complexity of potentially managing two critical patients simultaneously, the crew utilized the firefighter from the Engine to assist, allowing continuous, high-quality care to be provided to both the mother and her newborn baby.

The teamwork, professionalism, and quick decision-making demonstrated by these crews exemplify the dedication and exceptional care that Sunrise Fire Rescue provides to our community every day. 💚 Celebrating National CERT Week!

This week, we recognize the dedicated Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers who help make our communities safer, stronger, and better prepared.

CERT volunteers dedicate their time to learning valuable skills in disaster preparedness, fire safety, basic first aid, search and rescue, and more—all so they can lend a helping hand when their community needs it most.

Thank you to all of our CERT members for your commitment, compassion, and willingness to serve. Your dedication to helping others makes a difference! 👏🚒

👨‍🚒FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH - JULY 2026

Please join us in congratulating Battalion Chief Daniel Larsen, our Firefighter of the Month for July 2026!

On May 2, 2026, Sunrise Fire Rescue was dispatched to a pediatric drowning at a residence, where it was advised that a five-year-old child was discovered at the bottom of the pool. Prior to the arrival of units, unbeknownst to responding crews, Chief Larsen was at the location in an off-duty capacity, and when made aware of what was happening, Larsen immediately took life-saving actions.

Chief Larsen’s quick response, decisive actions, and commitment to protecting our community exemplify the courage and dedication of Sunrise Fire Rescue. Please join us in congratulating Chief Larsen on this well-deserved recognition! 👏🚒

Today, members of Sunrise Fire Rescue participated in to honor the 343 firefighters and 60 police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

As we climbed, we remembered the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness of the first responders who ran toward danger to help others.

Their legacy continues to inspire the fire service and communities across the nation. We honor their memory today and every day.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
