That glow from a tablet or phone at bedtime?📱It may be quietly stealing your child's sleep.

Screens are part of daily life for kids often before they can even read. But the blue light these devices emit suppresses melatonin, the hormone that signals the body it's time to wind down. The result: harder-to-fall-asleep nights, shorter sleep, and groggier mornings.

Here's what makes it tricky: about 3 out of 4 children have at least one screen device in their bedroom, and roughly 60% use them in the hour before bed. Recent research following thousands of kids found that having a device in the bedroom predicted shorter sleep a year later and each extra hour of screen time is linked to roughly 10 fewer minutes of sleep a night.

And kids need that sleep. Current guidelines from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommend:
🌙 Ages 6–12: 9–12 hours per night
🌙 Ages 13–18: 8–10 hours per night

Falling short is linked to problems with attention, mood, learning, and even weight.

The good news? Small changes make a real difference:
Keep screens out of the bedroom
Power down devices 30–60 minutes before bed
Swap the scroll for reading or quiet music
Set a consistent bedtime — for kids and parents alike
Dim the lights and cool the room as bedtime nears

Better sleep habits often start with one simple boundary.

If you're concerned about your child's sleep, the team at FusionSleep can help you find solutions that fit your family's life.

Happy Labor Day! Today we celebrate work by...not working. Funny how that goes.

But here's the thing: a day of rest only works if you're actually able to rest. If you're constantly tired, foggy, or wired-but-exhausted, even a day off doesn't feel restorative.

This Labor Day, give yourself permission to really rest:
➡️Sleep in without guilt
➡️Take that nap
➡️Go to bed without the phone

And if you've noticed that no amount of "rest" ever leaves you feeling refreshed, that might be worth a conversation. FusionSleep can help you figure out what's standing between you and the deep, restorative sleep you deserve...not just today, but every day.

Wishing you a restful Labor Day from all of us at FusionSleep.

Weight and sleep are locked in a two-way relationship and treating one can help the other.

The research is consistent: excess weight is one of the strongest risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea, and OSA prevalence is highest among people with higher BMI. But it isn't a one-way street. Untreated sleep apnea disrupts the hormones that govern hunger and fullness, drives daytime fatigue that saps activity, and can quietly undermine weight-loss efforts —including adherence to newer medications.

That's the vicious cycle: weight raises OSA risk, and untreated OSA makes weight harder to lose.

The opportunity is the same cycle running in reverse. Better sleep supports better metabolic health, and treating OSA can reinforce rather than compete with weight-management and GLP-1 programs.

If weight loss has stalled, sleep is worth investigating.

At FusionSleep, home sleep testing pairs easily with weight and metabolic care.

Poor sleep doesn't just make you tired. It raises your risk of high blood pressure and heart disease over time.

Prioritizing 7–9 hours a night is one of the most powerful things you can do for your cardiovascular health. Sleep truly is the Swiss army knife of health.

New backpack? Check. Fresh supplies? Check. Sleep schedule? …That one's easy to forget but it may matter most.

After a summer of late nights and lazy mornings, flipping the switch to early school wake-ups is tough on kids. And it matters: poor sleep is directly linked to lower academic performance. The good news is you don't have to fix it overnight.

🗓️ Start early, shift gradually. About a month out, move bedtime earlier in 30-minute steps every few days. Jumping from a midnight bedtime to 10 p.m. the night before day one rarely works.

⏰ Keep wake times steady. Same wake-up every morning and skip the daytime naps for school-age kids.
📵 Power down before bed. Turn off screens, loud music, and bright lights 30–60 minutes before lights-out so the brain can wind down naturally.
👀 Watch how they sleep. Snoring, restlessness, or still-tired-after-a-full-night? These can signal an underlying sleep disorder.
🌙 Set the scene. A cool, dark, quiet room, no heavy meals or exercise after 8 p.m., and consistent bedtimes even on weekends (within about 1.5 hours).

Most school-age kids need 9–12 hours a night; teens need 8–10. A smooth start to the school year often starts with a good night's sleep. https://rpb.li/ujDvVG

Loud, chronic snoring can be a symptom of obstructive sleep apnea, a condition where breathing repeatedly stops during sleep. Left untreated, it's linked to high blood pressure, heart disease, and daytime fatigue.

If your partner has noticed pauses in your breathing or gasping, it's worth getting evaluated. Relief is possible.

That 3 p.m. coffee could still be in your system at bedtime. ☕

Caffeine has a half-life of roughly 5–6 hours.

If you're struggling to fall asleep, try cutting off caffeine by early afternoon and see what changes.

Your evening wind-down starts earlier than you think. 😴

Nervous about sleep testing?

At FusionSleep, our home-like private suites are designed to feel more like a comfortable stay than a medical exam. A trained technologist gently applies sensors while you sleep, and a board-certified physician analyzes the results. And yes, most people do fall asleep. 😴

Your body naturally drops its core temperature to fall asleep and a hot bedroom fights that process.

This July, aim for a bedroom around 65–68°F, use lightweight bedding, and take a warm (not cold) shower before bed to help your body shed heat.

Small changes, big difference in how fast you drift off. 🌙
