Being back in Greenville has been pretty nostalgic.
We didn’t have much time to catch up with old friends, but somehow we made it to Michelangelo’s every single day. 😂 Today, we got there right when they opened!
The pizza is just as good as I remembered. Quick, incredible quality, and still one of the best deals around. You can get a huge pizza for about $20!
Since we got there so early, Daniel wasn’t swamped yet. The first thing he said was that he knew exactly who I was. Then he started sharing memories from back when I worked at WNCT that I had completely forgotten. The station was just up the road, so Michelangelo’s became one of our regular spots.
Here’s a picture of Si from 2013… our first year in Greenville. THIRTEEN years ago. ❤️
But there was one thing I did remember.
The week I left Greenville, I gave Daniel a thank-you card and a gift card because he had always been so kind to me and Si. As a single mom working evening anchor hours, getting off around midnight, those little acts of kindness meant more than he probably ever realized.
Today he reminded me of the time I bought Si a pair of Timberland boots that he absolutely refused to wear. 😂 Daniel jumped in and told him how cool they were, trying his best to convince him. Then we started talking about all the other memories. My coworkers gathering there for lunch, including Kevin, who’s no longer with us. So many moments that seemed ordinary then but mean so much now.
It’s funny how people can become part of your story without even realizing it.
So Michelangelo’s… I’m not going to tell y’all to give Daniel a raise (I’m hoping you’re already taking good care of him 😉), but I am going to tell you that you have an absolute gem.
Thank you, Daniel, for making us feel like family all those years ago… and for making this trip back to Greenville another memory we’ll always treasure.
Today, after seven years, I sat back in Tia’s chair again. She was my hairstylist through most of my years at WNCT, and while we’ve stayed in touch, I haven’t been back to Greenville since I left.
I’m in town for a few days for family reasons, and somewhere in the middle of a 10.50 hour drive from Florida, I sent her a message asking if there was any chance she could squeeze me in.
She didn’t text back, she picked up the phone to talk! When she said yes… I almost cried.
Leaving TV has been good for me. I don’t have to be “on” all the time anymore. I put on a lot of happy weight and honestly didn’t care. But then perimenopause showed up and said, “Hold my beer.” (Remember I had a hysterectomy - BUT - the symptoms showed up and showed out!) 🤣 The weight keeps coming, the hot flashes keep getting worse, I barely sleep, and lately I’ve just been in a really bad funk. The kind where self-care becomes the first thing to disappear.
I hadn’t had my hair done since November. I wish I was kidding, but I’ve literally been cutting it myself. 🤦🏽♀️ Finding time just doesn’t work for me!
Today wasn’t just an appointment. It was laughter, familiar conversation, catching up after all these years, and for a couple of hours, feeling like myself again.
I don’t know that Tia realizes how much I needed today, but I did.
Funny how something as simple as sitting in an old friend’s salon chair can remind you that you’re still in there somewhere. ❤️
Not that she needs the advertising, but here’s her website, book a time: https://www.studioadoremi.com/
Love you Tia!!!
