This week, the Taylorville Fire Department conducted high-rise operations training at Park Glen, strengthening the skills needed to safely and effectively respond to emergencies in multi-story buildings.

Firefighters trained on:

* Aerial apparatus placement
* High-rise hose deployment and stairwell operations
* Elevator operations and firefighter safety
* Fire alarm and sprinkler system operations
* Building familiarization and pre-incident planning

High-rise incidents present unique challenges that require specialized tactics, coordination, and endurance. By training in the actual environment, our crews gain valuable experience that improves efficiency, communication, and decision-making during an emergency.

We would like to thank Kathy and the maintenance staff at Park Glen for allowing us to use their facility and for supporting our commitment to training and preparedness.

At the Taylorville Fire Department, we believe that the best time to learn is before the emergency happens. Continuous training ensures that when our community calls for help, our firefighters are ready to respond with confidence and professionalism.

🧸🚗🔥 Soft. Squishy. Fun… until it’s left in a hot car.

It sounds unbelievable…but it’s happening.

When left inside a hot vehicle, some squishy toys can become extremely hot, rupture, and leak sticky contents that may cling to skin, causing painful burns and making the material difficult to remove.

☀️ A parked car can reach 120–140°F (49–60°C)
or more in the summer…even if it doesn’t feel that hot outside.

Before you leave the car:
• Take the squishies with you.
• Don’t store them on seats or dashboards.
• If one bursts on a child, remove it carefully, cool the area with running water, and seek medical attention for significant burns or persistent irritation.

Sometimes it’s not the obvious dangers that cause injuries…it’s the ones no one expects.

This summer, add squishy toys to the list of things that shouldn’t be left in a hot car.
