The Tehachapi Loop Railroad Club, based in Tehachapi, CA, is open to all railroad enthusiasts and anyone wishing to share in the Spirit of Train Faire. layout.

The Tehachapi Loop Railroad Club is open to all railroad enthusiasts, whether modelers of HO, G, N or Z, fans of Lionel and American Flyer, standard gauge travelers, historians, artists, photographers, collectors of memorabilia, dreamers: anyone wishing to share in the Spirit of Train Faire. We are based in Tehachapi, CA with members throughout the regional area. The club has several train displays (Train Shows) that are set up throughout the year for the public to view the club members’ model trains. Typically, there is a spring extravaganza in April, a show in mid-Summer, and our last show of the year is usually in late fall. We operate a large HO scale layout, plus G Gauge, N scale, and a Toy Train (American Flyer, Lionel, Marx, etc.) When not operating our layouts, we try to schedule events/trips throughout the year that relate to real trains. Whether it is going to a train show, chasing real trains, or visiting a historic train site, these events are designed to be a social interaction amongst the membership. Our monthly business meeting is held in Tehachapi, California, on the second Saturday of each month. The meetings start at 10 am. In July, the monthly meeting is called a Crew Change Dinner where newly elected club officers are installed; the location of this event varies. In addition, for the December meeting, the club hosts a Holiday Dinner. Last but not least, we have a monthly newsletter that is e-mailed to all members. This newsletter includes the minutes from our last meeting, any up-coming events, and railroad-related articles submitted by our members.

🏆 The TLRC Caboose brought home the Judge’s Choice Award! 🏆

We had a fantastic Saturday rolling through the Mojave Gold Rush Days parade and displaying our caboose in the car show, where our entry took top honors with the Judge's Choice trophy!

Beyond the hardware, our crew was on a vital community mission: sharing the message of Operation Lifesaver. Highway-rail grade crossing safety and rail trespass prevention save lives. Whenever you approach the tracks, always remember to look, listen, and live.

A special shoutout to Marlan for representing the club in full engineer style and bringing home the award!

TLRC has the famous Toy Train Layout, maintained by Doug Pickard. Doug is handing the reins over to me and Reed for the November Show.

I was putting together the toolbox and was pretty proud of myself. As the box gets fuller, I want to switch to smaller oil jars. But I noticed one item is missing and one is probably too small. What other suggestions do you have for the toy train toolbox?

The Tehachapi Loop Railroad Club is heading down the hill for Mojave Gold Rush Days 2026 this weekend (October 2–4)!

This year’s celebration honors 150 Years of Gold, Grit, and Railroad Spirit, and TLRC is proud to take part in the festivities on Saturday, October 3.

Fuel up first thing Saturday morning: the Mojave Elks Lodge is serving breakfast from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM—and rumor has it the pancakes are absolutely amazing. 🥞

At 10:00 AM, line up along K Street for the parade, where Marlan will be out front pulling the TLRC caboose! Immediately following the parade, head over to the park and visit the TLRC Booth between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Stop by to chat with our crew about model railroading, upcoming club layouts, and Tehachapi Pass rail history.

Saturday at a Glance:

* 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Breakfast at Mojave Elks Lodge (come hungry for pancakes!)

* 10:00 AM: Parade (K Street & Belshaw Street) — watch for Marlan and the caboose

* 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM: TLRC Booth, Community Vendors, & Kid Activities

* 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Music in the Park

Come out, wave to the caboose, and spend Saturday celebrating our desert rail heritage with us! 🚂🌵

Keeping equipment and layout modules organized for shows and club runs just got a major overhaul.

Here is the standardized bin system rolling out for TLRC:

* 17-Gallon Bins: Dedicated to toy trains and equipment.

* 27-Gallon Bins: Sized specifically for T-TRAK modules.

A few practical updates to how these totes are prepped and labeled:

* Clear 4x6 Adhesive Pouches: Blue painter's tape is officially retired. These heavy-duty clear adhesive pockets hold standard 4x6 index cards, making it simple to slide in updated inventory lists whenever bin contents rotate.

* Gorilla Heavy Duty Mounting Tape: Plastic storage totes can be slick and textured, so a strip of Gorilla heavy-duty mounting tape provides the necessary backup hold to keep pouches permanently secured. But the new pouches haven’t needed them yet.

* Nelko P21 Label Maker: The portable Nelko P21 label printer makes quick work of printing clean, legible headers and tags right at the workbench.

* Lids Remain Blank: Lids get stacked, shuffled, and swapped constantly during setup and teardown at events. Keeping labels strictly on the bin sides prevents misplaced lids from scrambling the inventory system.

How do you organize and transport your rolling stock and modules for train meets? Share your setup tips in the comments below!
