"If my SEO is working, why would I pay for Google Ads?" πŸ€”
I get this question all the time. So here's a real example.
Chase Garage Doors already ranks in the top 3 on Google Maps across most of their service area. We worked hard for that. It's the foundation.

But here's the reality of a competitive local market πŸ‘‡
🟒 When someone searches "garage door repair near me," the top of the screen is ads, not the map.
🟒 On a phone, even the #1 organic result can sit below the fold.
🟒 A broken garage door is an emergency. People call the first name they see. They don't scroll.
🟒 Your competitors are already paying for that top spot. If you're not there, they get the call.

So we run both. SEO for long-term visibility. Ads for the urgent call happening right now.

This week's Google Ads for Chase:
πŸ“ž 27 call conversions, up from 20 last week (+35%)
πŸ’° $8.26 per conversion
πŸ“ Rancho Cucamonga 9 β†’ 16 Β· Riverside 3 β†’ 8 Β· Temecula 8 β†’ 3 (we're fixing that one)

Do you run SEO and ads together, or rely on one channel? πŸ‘‡

Most accounting proposals lose on structure, not on price.

Three days late, fourteen pages, opens with a company history nobody asked for, ends with "let me know your thoughts."

The structure we use instead is on the card β€” nine sections, four to six pages, sent the same day as the call.

The one everybody skips is the exclusions section. Writing down what you are NOT doing is how you avoid the scope argument in month four.

Build it once as a template and the next one takes twenty minutes.

Comment AUDIT and I will look at yours and tell you which of the nine are missing.

Nineteen positions.

That is the gap Whitespark found between a Google Business Profile with nothing filled in and one that is actually finished. They looked at 1.8 million profiles.

Empty profile: average rank 62. Complete profile: average rank 43. And the finished ones hit the top 10 about three times as often.

The five fields they scored: website, description, hours, photos, claimed status.

What gets me is that this is the least interesting work in local search. No strategy, no tools, no retainer. Forty minutes of filling in boxes.

But it almost never gets done, because the profile was set up once by whoever had the login and then everybody moved on to the website.

Anyone else got a profile sitting half-finished? Go look at the hours field β€” that is usually the one.

A week-over-week Google Ads snapshot for one of our dental clients, and a useful lesson in which metrics actually matter.

Sep 14–20 vs Sep 21–27:

πŸ“‰ Clicks: 99 β†’ 80 (βˆ’19%)
πŸ“‰ Total spend: $480 β†’ $442 (βˆ’8%)
πŸ“ˆ Conversions: 1 β†’ 7
πŸ“ˆ Conversion rate: 1.01% β†’ 8.75%
πŸ’° Cost per conversion: $480 β†’ $63 (βˆ’87%)

Fewer people clicked on the ads this week. And the practice got 7 times more conversions for less money.

How? πŸ‘‡

When a campaign is loose, it pays for everyone: people looking for dental school, dental jobs, free clinics, or just browsing prices. Lots of clicks, almost no patients.

When you tighten the targeting, block the wrong searches, and send people to a page built to book an appointment, you get fewer clicks but far better ones.

One week isn't the finish line, and we'll keep watching the trend. But this is exactly the direction you want: spending less and getting more patients.

Is your practice paying for clicks or for patients? Comment DENTAL and I'll take a look. πŸ‘‡

Angel Smile Dental Group in Chatsworth. Emergency dentist, three mile radius, 25 measured search points.

Before: positions 7 to 20+. After: 2 to 4, in every cell.

The grid is the part worth understanding. When someone says they rank third, they mean third from wherever they were standing. Local results aren't one ranking β€” they're a different ranking at every point on the map. A practice can sit at #2 outside its own door and #18 a mile east, where half its patients live.

That's why the honest measurement is a grid, not a number. "We rank well" isn't a status. It's a map with holes in it.

Comment GRID and I'll send the tool and how to read it.

Yesterday I shared the before and after of Manilla Upholstery's new website: the copy, the design, the structure. πŸ›‹οΈ

Today, the technical side. These are the Google PageSpeed Insights scores for the new homepage (desktop)

⚑ Performance: 92. The site loads fast. People leave slow sites before they ever read your offer.

β™Ώ Accessibility: 95. It's easy to read and use for everyone, including people with vision or mobility challenges. Google pays attention to this too.

βœ… Best Practices: 96. It's secure, up to date, and free of the technical errors that quietly hurt trust.

πŸ” SEO: 92. The page is built so Google can clearly understand what the business does and where.

πŸ€– Agentic Browsing: 2/2. A newer check for whether AI assistants can read and use the site. More people are asking AI for recommendations every month.

A great-looking website that's slow or hard for Google to read is a beautiful showroom with the lights off.

Want to check yours? It's free: go to pagespeed.web.dev, paste your website, and hit Analyze.

Local SEO results are hard to explain in a spreadsheet. A ranking grid makes it obvious in two seconds.

This one tracks Chase Garage Doors, a family-owned garage door company in the Inland Empire, for "best garage door repair." It checks their Google Maps position at 49 points across a 20-mile area.

πŸ”΄ September 2025: 23 of 49 points ranked 12th or worse. In a lot of the area, they basically didn't exist.

🟒 March 2026: 41 of 49 points in the top 3. The other 8 at 4th. Not a single point worse than that.

Here's why that matters for this kind of business πŸ‘‡

Garage door repair is an urgent search. Someone's car is stuck, or a spring just snapped. They don't compare 12 options. They call one of the first three names on the map.

So the difference between ranking 12th and ranking 3rd isn't a small improvement. It's the difference between getting the call and never knowing it existed.

This didn't come from one trick. It came from consistent, month-after-month work for the last Six months on the things Google actually uses to decide who shows up.

Before and after for Manilla Upholstery, a family workshop in Northridge. πŸ›‹οΈ

The old site wasn't "ugly." That's the trap. It looked fine, and fine doesn't get the call.

The new one talks to the customer's real frustration, gives every service and city its own page, and puts one clear next step everywhere.

Same business. Same craft. Now the website finally matches the work.

A before-and-after from a recent project, and the lesson behind it.

This is Manilla Upholstery, a family-run upholstery workshop in Northridge. Real craftsmen. Customers who've come back for years.

But their old website wasn't telling that story. It looked fine at a glance, and that's exactly the problem. "Fine" doesn't make anyone pick up the phone.

Here's what we changed πŸ‘‡

βœ… The copy. It used to describe the business. Now it speaks to the customer: the sofa that sags after two years, the online order that didn't fit the corner.

βœ… The design. One clear "Get My Free Quote" button, repeated where it matters, plus a simple 3-step process so people know what happens next.

βœ… The structure. A dedicated page for every service (cushions, slipcovers, headboards, restaurant booths) and every city they serve, all linked together so Google understands exactly what they do and where.

βœ… The trust. Real Google reviews, answers to common questions, a map, and "Se Habla EspaΓ±ol" right at the top.

New pictures alone wouldn't have done any of that.

If your website "looks fine" but isn't bringing in calls, comment WEBSITE and I'll tell you what's missing. πŸ‘‡

Before you spend another dollar on ads β€” nine questions.

I ask these on every first call and rarely get through all nine before we find the thing that's actually costing money.

Get found: Where do you rank three miles out (not from your desk)? Is your primary category right? When did you last post to your profile?

Get chosen: How many reviews in the last 90 days? Does the page answer price? Can a stranger tell what area you serve?

Get booked: How fast does a lead get a reply? Who answers the phone at 4pm? What happens on day three?

Order matters β€” ads amplify whatever's already there. If the answer to #7 is "sometimes the next morning," more traffic just makes the leak bigger.

Comment AUDIT and I'll run these against your setup.
