Light completes what steel begins. Wholeness, a public art installation by Maria Salenger at Scottsdale Fire Station #612, traces the native plants of the McDowell Mountain Preserve in laser-cut steel. As sunlight moves, shadows shift across the patio below. At certain moments, the full Maltese Cross appears: the emblem of firefighter sacrifice and courage, assembled in light.

The piece was born from conversations with Scottsdale firefighters: their lives, their two families, their home here.

We are proud to celebrate one of Jones Studio’s talented Associate Architects, Xander Jacobs. Xander recently graduated from Arizona Forward’s Emerging Sustainability Leaders 2025-26 cohort!

Xander learned alongside an incredible group of changemakers exploring water, energy, climate, and community resilience from the ground up.

His biggest takeaway? “There are real people behind the systems, institutions, and processes that both help and hinder our statewide push towards a sustainable relationship with our natural surroundings/resources. When these are viewed as abstract, it can seem daunting, even futile, to pursue change - but when they are understood as a pliable network of people it becomes clear that change can sought out - one relationship at a time.”

Two years in, and the Abbey just keeps getting better.

What was once a 1929 First Baptist Church — then gutted by fire and abandoned — is now one of downtown Phoenix’s most cherished gathering places. The rose window still watches over it all. The historic brick still holds the memory of a century of community. And the courtyard? Full of people, music, and birthday cake.
Jones Studio is proud to have led the rehabilitation that gave this Phoenix landmark a new chapter, and grateful to everyone who showed up to celebrate two remarkable years.

There’s a word for the love of place: topophilia.

We’re thrilled to share part of our latest public art piece, Topophilia, a community-driven project now permanently installed at 100 W Washington St in downtown Phoenix.

Led by artist Maria Salenger, youth participants were invited to observe the beauty of the Sonoran Desert and create artwork that reflected their connection to this landscape. Their drawings became the hand-crafted cut-metal plaques you’ll find on bollards throughout this downtown block.

From pencil sketches to metal in the street - this is what it looks like when a community builds something together.
