Another major piece of Kaufman County infrastructure is moving forward. 🚒
Kaufman County Emergency Services District No. 6 is planning a new Fire Station No. 4 and administration building at 16061 Ranch Rd. near Forney.
According to the project’s state filing, the new facility is planned at approximately 19,239 square feet and would include firefighter dormitories, offices and other administrative space. The filing lists an estimated construction cost of $14 million.
The project is currently in the bidding process, with proposals due October 1. State documents currently list a tentative construction start in November 2026.
ESD 6 serves roughly 28,000 people living in the unincorporated areas around Forney, including several of the county’s rapidly developing residential communities.
So while this one isn’t in Terrell, it’s another good example of the infrastructure being built as Kaufman County continues to change.
Remembering J.T. “Cowboy” Pease. 🤍
If you’ve spent much time around Terrell, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Cowboy somewhere — smiling, singing, dancing, waving, or simply making somebody’s day a little brighter.
We originally made this video a few months ago while Cowboy was still with us.
Watching it today feels a whole lot different.
He was one of those familiar faces that became part of Terrell itself, and judging by the stories already being shared, he meant something to a whole lot of people.
Rest easy, Cowboy. Terrell won’t forget you. 🤍

😳 This driver apparently decided the stop sign was optional too.
A follower sent us this dash cam video from 9th & State in Terrell showing a car move left to pass approaching the intersection — then continue straight through the stop sign.
Thankfully, without a crash.

Zach Top played here. So did Deryl Dodd and Larry Joe Taylor. Now Terrell’s Swingin Doors Saloon is listed for $1.4 million.
From the road, you might not guess the music history inside that little honky-tonk on FM 148.
Archived event listings put Zach Top here in 2022 and again in September 2023—an early chapter worth remembering for anyone who caught him on that stage.
Go back to October 2015, and Larry Joe Taylor’s own tour schedule lists a Swingin’ Doors show with Deryl Dodd and Dave Perez of Tejas Brothers. Some recognizable Texas-country talent, right here in Terrell.
But the history of a place like this belongs to the crowd, too—the regulars, weekend bands, couples on the dance floor and friends who kept coming back.
Now the roughly 4,200-square-foot saloon and its 1.45-acre property at 304 FM 148 are being offered with the bars, stage, dance floor and operating equipment.
For sale doesn’t mean closing. We haven’t found an announcement saying Swingin’ Doors is shutting down. The listing offers it as a turnkey venue for its next owner.
