Black Gesso provides a textured landscape for some scratched sentiments and stenciled foliage in this double-page Art of Dina Wakley Kraft Journal spread by craftygreenie.🌿

Materials

Dina Wakely MEdia:
-Gesso Black MDM41719
-Stencil: Create Yourself MDS87687
-Chroma Transparencies Painted Elements MDA92735
-Large Kraft Journal MDJ80374
-Acrylic Paint: Gilt MDQ54139, Stoked MDQ82873
-Gloss Sunshine MDO89322
Palette Knife

Method:
Using the lovely thick pages of the DWM Kraft Journal, a base of Black Gesso was applied to both sides using a palette knife. It was applied generously to ensure plenty of texture.

Left to airdry, the “Create Yourself” stencil was applied with a pick to scratch away the Gesso and reveal the Kraft underneath. The thickness of the Kraft Journal pages allowed this without coming through the other side.

Around the scratched words, some painted foliage was added through an older DWM stencil using Gilt and Stoked paints. A focal point was added to each page using the “Painted Elements” Transparencies. On top of the Gesso, the Transparencies took on a film negative vibe. To make the pages pop, little dabs of “Stoked” were added along with Gloss “Sunshine” splats. The flowers were outlined in white, then black to lift them from a dark background.
