This morning, I received the following email from a popular local compounding pharmacy -- one that I've prescribed to with variable success over the past few years to provide many of you with unique medication solutions, particularly GLP-1 agonists (semaglutide, branded Ozempic and Wegovy, and tirzepatide, branded Mounjaro and Zepbound). In a nutshell, compounding pharmacies are being sued nationally because they are greedy, and disregard the law…...
If you are taking compounded generic tirzepatide (branded as Mounjaro and Zepbound) or compounded generic semaglutide (branded as Ozempic and Wegovy), you will not be able to get these prescriptions at your compounding pharmacy after 19 March 2025 and 22 May 2025 respectively. If you take this medication, check your lot number! Lot #: 220128, Exp. Date 12/2024 has been recalled by Breckenridge Pharmaceuticals, Inc. over concerns of higher than expected levels of a nitrosamine byproduct, one similarly noted in some blood pressure medication recalls in the past few years (losartan, valsartan, etc.). I don't think that this is likely to have lead to significant injury, but, given the recall, would make sure that you get it swapped out for a fresher batch, without this issue.
