Understanding beats memorizing.

A kill sheet is not just a list of formulas. Each number has a purpose: and knowing why it matters helps you work through the sheet with greater confidence.

Step 1: Verify your inputs.

One key calculation is kill-weight mud:

Kill Weight Mud = SIDPP ÷ 0.052 ÷ TVD + MW

Round the calculated kill-weight mud up to one decimal place. For example, 8.94 becomes 9.0, and 12.36 becomes 12.4.

SIDPP represents the amount the well is underbalanced.
TVD is true vertical depth.

Why does this matter?

SIDPP indicates how much the well is underbalanced. TVD is used to convert that pressure deficit into the additional mud weight needed to restore balance.

Before calculating, confirm that your current mud weight, SIDPP, and TVD are correct: and that you are using the units and procedure required for the well.

The goal is not to memorize a formula and hope for the best. The goal is to understand what each input represents and how it affects the result.

One thing we intentionally do at CDF is keep our classes smaller whenever possible. Smaller classes allow for more instructor interaction, more opportunities to ask questions, and more time to work through concepts until they make sense.
We're not interested in just filling seats. We want the people in those seats to learn.
