🚨 Not every “heart attack” is a heart attack.
An aortic dissection—a tear in the body’s largest artery—is a life-threatening emergency that can mimic a heart attack. The wrong diagnosis can have devastating consequences.
If you or a loved one has sudden, severe chest or back pain, advocate for yourself.
Ask:
✅ “Can you check the blood pressure in BOTH arms?” A significant difference can be an important clue to an aortic dissection.
✅ “Could this be an aortic dissection?” “How did you rule that out?”
✅ “Do I need a CT angiogram (CTA)?” A normal EKG or chest X-ray does not rule it out.
At Texas One Life, we believe informed patients save lives. Ask questions. Speak up. It could save your life—or someone you love.
This post is for education only and is not a substitute for medical care. If you or someone else has sudden severe chest, back, or abdominal pain, call 911 immediately.
