The traditional kindergarten Woodland Animals Walk in the Woods got a rainy-day twist this year, but that didn't slow down the fun! On Thursday, students took their "trail" walk right through our school hallways, searching for animals in the wilds of Topeka Collegiate with homemade binoculars and their very own Junior Animal Tracker badges.
The adventure continued with s'mores by the "campfire" (a microwave did the trick!) and cozy story time by flashlight under blanket tents. Proof that a little rain can't rain on an Eagle's parade!

Early Childhood Spotlight: International Dot Day
On Tuesday, September 15, Ms. Koger's first grade students celebrated International Dot Day with The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, a story about taking the first step, celebrating creativity, and leaving your mark on the world, whatever that may be.
After reading the story, students took part in a few Dot Day activities between math and reading. At the end of the day, each student created their own dot, and no two turned out alike!
Every Eagle has a mark to make, and we can't wait to see what these creative kiddos do next.

Not even the rain could dampen the excitement today as 2nd grade wrapped up their solar system unit with a rocket launch outside! Students spent weeks learning about the sun, the planets, and the characteristics of their favorite worlds in our solar system.
Families got in on the fun too, designing rockets at home complete with a cone, fins, and creative design to wow the crowd. After the countdowns and launches, students shared research posters on each of the planets with their families, showing off everything they've learned.
Rain or shine, these Eagles know how to reach for the stars!

Middle School Volleyball Update
Our middle school volleyball team battled Holy Family last night. The girls worked hard, took the first set, and pushed the match all the way to three, but came up just short.
Even in a loss, the improvement is showing, and that's something to be proud of. Keep up the great work, Eagles!

Lower School Spotlight: Science
Our 3rd and 4th grade students have been learning about polymers, which are long chains of molecules, and what better way to see one in action than by making slime!
Using glue and borax, students watched the molecules link together and turn a runny liquid into a stretchy, squishy slime.
Science is a lot more fun when you can get your hands on it!

Middle School Spotlight: Leadership
Last week during morning meeting, our students talked about communication as an important quality of a good leader. Then they put it to the test.
Working in small groups, middle school students teamed up to guide a hula hoop using pool noodles. It's harder than it looks, and it takes patience, clear directions, and a whole lot of listening to keep everyone on the same page. There were plenty of laughs along the way!
Great leaders speak up, listen well, and work together, and these Eagles were practicing all three.
