As the storytellers of Kansas, we feature many topics - from our communities and heritage to food + dining and not to miss travel destinations. First published in 1945 as an industry newsletter by the Kansas Industrial Development Commission, KANSAS! has grown to become an international award-winning household magazine. magazine is published quarterly by the Tourism Division of the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism. The magazine’s home office is in Topeka, Sunflower Publishing in Lawrence oversees design, and McCormick Armstrong of Wichita manages printing and distribution. is funded through annual subscriptions, retail sales, and Kansas advertising partners. The magazine also produces a beautiful annual calendar and specialty guides.

Spanish explorers called it "The Great Settlement."
From 1450 to 1700, an estimated 20,000 people lived where the Arkansas and Walnut rivers meet. They built grass-covered homes, grew beans, maize and squash, hunted bison and traded goods across a vast network. Some believe Etzanoa may have rivaled Cahokia as the largest pre-Columbian settlement north of Mexico.
Now you can step inside their world. The new Etzanoa Immersion Center in Arkansas City offers virtual-reality experiences, artifact exhibits, outdoor trails and a replica grass house built by members of the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes, whose ancestors called Etzanoa home.
