Today, on Father's Day, I'm reflecting on my father, a man who lived the principles of the 5Gs long before I ever put them into words.

Through his unconditional support and the stories he shared from his own life and career, he taught me that leadership isn’t about titles. It’s about creating environments, at home and at work, where people experience guidance, encouragement, accountability, and love.

Although he is no longer here, I still feel his presence and support in the way I lead and in the choices I make. His example reminds me that our greatest legacy is not what we accomplish ourselves, but the potential we help others realize.

As I look at my own children, I always try to live my ā€œFero Ruleā€, providing each of my children what they need to become the best version of themselves.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, mentors, and role models who lead by example.

Keep Leading!

A quick note for my followers: while I enjoy connecting with you here, I wanted to let you now, LinkedIn is where I post most often.

That’s where I regularly share practical insights on leadership, team culture, executive coaching, and personal growth.

If leadership is something you’re passionate about, I’d love to connect with you there so we can ā€˜talk leadership’ some more and share ideas that help individuals and teams thrive.

Another important lesson from my friend Bruce Tulgan! Bruce's message reinforces the importance of my 3rd and 4th Gs in Leadership in 5G, Get to Know Your People and Give Them What They Need. Great leaders don't lead everyone the same way. They adapt their approach based on the individual and the situation to help their team perform at their best.

Leadership doesn’t have to be complicated. In Leadership in 5G, I share five practical leadership behaviors that can help leaders at every level become more effective:

• Get Up
• Get Out There
• Get to Know Your People
• Give Them What They Need
• Get Out of the Way

Which of these leadership behaviors has had the greatest impact on your own leadership journey?

Yesterday I took my mother, wife, and kids, on a 'nostalgia and good food' tour, back to Brooklyn, where I grew up.

We drove past my childhood homes and schools, as well as those of my mother and wife. We stopped for lots of 'Brooklyn food', which didn't disappoint, and showed my kids a little of what growing up in Sheepshead Bay was like.

Standing in front of the old houses, schools, and parks, brought back a lot of memories and reminded me how much of who we become is shaped by where we start.

As leaders, we spend a lot of time focused on where we're going, but it's also important to look back and remember the people, experiences, and values that helped get us here.

Most important, in case you were wondering, the pizza, bagels, and corned beef were just as good as I remembered!
