Before your child had a name, before the first scan, before there was anything to see, someone was told about them. An exorcist says it happened at the very beginning of creation.

Fr. Chad Ripperger, an exorcist, explains what the angels were given the moment God made them. Knowledge of God, of each other, of the task ahead. And for the ones created to be guardian angels, something far more personal:

"THOSE WHO WERE CREATED GUARDIAN ANGELS WERE GIVEN KNOWLEDGE OF THE PERSON THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO GUARD AND TO PROTECT AND CERTAIN ASPECTS OF THAT PERSON'S LIFE."

And then, word for word, what each of them was told:

"THIS IS THE PERSON YOU'RE GOING TO BE PROTECTING."

Read that with your own child in mind. Long before you ever worried about them, somebody was assigned to them. He has been at his post through every year you were in the room, and through all the years you have not been.

Then Fr. Ripperger says the part most parents have never heard. You are not limited to praying to your own angel:

"YOU CAN ALSO PRAY TO THE GUARDIAN ANGELS OF YOUR CHILDREN... AND THAT EMPOWERS THEM TO ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO GO AND DO THAT MORE FREQUENTLY."

Think about where your child is right now. Down the hall. In a flat in another city. In a car you did not want them to get into. Out of your reach and out of your sight. Not out of his.

So tonight, one child at a time, out loud:

"Holy angel of God, you were told about NAME before they ever drew a breath. You know what tonight holds for them and I do not. Guard them where I cannot go. Turn them away from what would harm them. Keep them close to God, and bring them home. Amen."

Use their name. Twenty seconds per child. Do it again tomorrow.

You were never the only one watching over them.

👇 One word if you are praying over a child tonight: WATCH.

Théodore Guérin was born October 2, 1784 in Etables, France. At the age of ten, she received her First Holy Communion and announced to the parish priest that she would one day be a nun. At the age of 25, she fulfilled this statement, entering the order of the Sisters of Providence of Ruillé-sur-Loir, whose mission it was to educate children and to care for the poor, sick and dying. While serving at the convent, Théodore was asked to lead a small band of missionary sisters to Indiana in the United States of America. When the sisters arrived, there was only a log cabin with a porch that served as a chapel. Though her health was suffering, Théodore fell to this new task with a will. By the time she died in 1856, Mother Théodore had opened schools in Illinois and throughout Indiana. The sisters were well-established and respected. Through illness, poverty and all manner of unwelcoming circumstances, she trusted in God’s providence and lived as a model of belief in his mercy. She was canonized in 2006, and is known as the patron saint of Indianapolis.

Saint Théodore Guérin, pray for us!

Memorial of the holy Guardian Angels: they were primarily called to contemplate in splendor the face of God, and were also sent by the Lord to men, in order to stand by and assist them, with their invisible but ever-watchful presence.

Holy Guardian Angels, pray for us!

Memorial, ST. THERESE OF THE CHILD JESUS, Virgin & Doctor of the Church

“Holiness consists simply in doing God’s will, and being just what God wants us to be.” — St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Today we celebrate St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the “Little Flower,” one of the most beloved saints in the Catholic Church.

St. Thérèse entered the Carmelite convent at just 15 years old and lived what she called her “Little Way” — doing ordinary things with extraordinary love. She never became famous during her lifetime, never founded a religious order, and never traveled the world preaching. Yet through hidden acts of love, sacrifice, prayer, and trust in God, she became a Doctor of the Church.

Her life reminds us that holiness is not about doing something impressive. It is about doing God’s will faithfully in the place He has put us.

Love your family.
Do your work well.
Offer up the small sacrifices.
Forgive quickly.
Pray faithfully.
Trust God completely.

That is the Little Way.

St. Thérèse of Lisieux, pray for us, that we may become saints by doing small things with great love.

Saint Jerome, priest and Doctor of the Church: born in Dalmatia, in Rome he became an exceptional scholar and cultivated a zeal for the arts and letters, and was baptized there. Attracted strongly to a life of contemplation and embracing an ascetic life, he traveled to the East and was ordained a priest. Upon returning to Rome, he became secretary to Pope Damasus I; he later settled in Bethlehem of Judea and withdrew to a monastic way of life. Through the translation and exposition of Sacred Scripture, he proved to be an outstanding Doctor. He countered in a most admirable way the many threats against the Church, and when he had lived to an advanced age, he finally went to his rest in peace.

Saint Jerome, Priest and Doctor of the Church, pray for us!
