SSRC rider Natalie Cox is hard working, disciplined, and thoughtful - a great combination in a horse person and student. Recently, she graduated to cantering! Here are Natalie and our wonderful Watusi making the canter look easy. We love helping riders accomplish their goals. Well done Natalie!

This week, riders are learning the parts of the horse. If they correctly identify a part, they get to paint that area. Luckily, we have lots of light colored horses to show off our riders’ artistic talents! Here is the always patient Sugar being a wonderful model and canvas. Thank you to our barn manager Bec for planning a fun lesson!

SSRC is raising money for Financial Assistance Program which offers free and reduced lessons for families in need. Today is the last day of our fundraiser! Can you help us reach our goal?

“When I got to the barn I felt happy, I missed AJ and Flash! I love riding!” ~McKenna Bishop

"We feel so fortunate to have McKenna at the barn. The support in and out of the barn to continue her education has meant so much to our family during this change!" ~Kate Bishop

Unexpected life changes happen and when they do, SSRC works with families to ensure that riders can continue lessons. We love our community, and we want children and adults to benefit from our horses, activities, and barn life.

We currently have a generous matching gift for up to $10,000! This means that every gift you make right now is doubled! Please take advantage of this exciting opportunity to help us reach our $10,000 goal in a short amount of time. Olaf, Creed, and Star love spending their day together - lounging, eating, and occasionally annoying one another. We love finding the perfect turnout matches to ensure that our horses have friends and experiences to enrich their lives.

SSRC has a wonderful opportunity thanks to generous donor!

SSRC has been struggling to reach our summer fundraising goal of $10,000, which would allow us to increase our Financial Assistance Program and make lessons more accessible to families.

This week, a supporter has stepped in to assist us. A former student who was helped by SSRC in the past has offered a $10,000 matching gift for the fundraiser! In order to reach the full potential of this amazing gift, we need to raise $5,885 in the next five days!

From today until September 1st, every gift you make is doubled! Please take advantage of this exciting opportunity to help us reach our $10,000 goal in a short amount of time. Thank you for supporting SSRC and our life-changing services!

"Steady Strides' Financial Assistance Program made it possible for my daughter to have riding lessons on a weekly basis so her skills and abilities could continue to grow. We are very thankful for the opportunities this program has given her! Learning how to care for and ride a horse has enriched our daughter's life by helping her to face fears and challenges, learn to do hard things and persevere, and discover the joy of accomplishment. Her love for horses only continues to grow thanks to this program and the possibilities it opens!" ~ Kelsey Bauder

Horsemanship and horseback riding lessons improve confidence, teach life skills, and bring joy to riders. At SSRC, we believe that anyone who has an interest in horses should be able to pursue lessons and finances should never be a reason a child or adult is unable to learn about horses. Our summer fundraiser to grow our Financial Assistance Program is still underway! Please donate today, so we can help more families. https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/2026-spring-into-summer-campaign

"I am Maya Garcia, a rider at Steady Strides. I have such a great time riding there, and it is a wonderful place. Melanie is a great teacher, and she has taught me so much. I have always wanted to ride, I took every opportunity I had, on fairs or asking for birthday presents that involved horses, but to really learn to ride and have predictable meetings with horses remained only in my wishes. Then after so many years my dream came true at Steady Strides! I can honestly say it is always a highlight of my week. The school horses are understanding and well fitted to each rider. Each lesson leaves me feeling great, both well exercised and put back in the right mindset. I am very grateful to Melanie and Steady Strides for giving me this opportunity! I am learning to ride and getting my weekly dose of joy being with horses. It adds a lot of positivity to my life. " ~ Maya Garcia, age 12

At SSRC, we love seeing the joy horses bring to riders. The barn is a place of happiness, growth, and learning, and it should be accessible to everyone. SSRC is working hard to ensure that everyone who wants to enjoy and learn about horses has that opportunity, and we need your help to make that possible. Our current summer fundraiser is ending soon, and we are in need of donations to reach our goal. Please donate today, so we can provide additional financial support to families in need. With temperatures well above 100 degrees, SSRC staff are spending a lot of time hosing off the horses to keep them comfortable. Here’s our rescue horse Rio enjoying a graze after his shower.

Rio is a 20-year-old OTTB (JC name Braziliano) who was relinquished to SSRC in 2018 when he was demonstrating unsafe behavior and at risk of going to auction. Luckily, the owners chose SSRC’s rescue program instead! Rio went into training and was doing well for a while, but he eventually told us something was wrong. He was subsequently diagnosed with severe kissing spine and retired from work. We would love to eventually find a home for this sweet, goofy guy, but he’s a pasture ornament and a lot of horse, so appropriate homes are hard to find. Until the right situation presents itself, Rio gets to be a spoiled SSRC mascot.
