Ryan Davis' successful Allstate agency in West Jordan, Utah is also turning 6 this month. Ryan is a dynamic leader and (pleasantly) relentless problem solver, a great resource for his clients. We all know the image: It's usually a cartoon of a person smiling serenely in the center of a storm of activity as if to say, "Look at everything I can get done without breaking a sweat." I call total BS on this! We have countless weird cultural inheritances around work in this country, and the multitasking myth is way up there. If anything, it makes people feel like they must work to an impossible and stressful standard. Giving up the illusion of multitasking in favor of intention and effectiveness is about producing better work with less mental fatigue.

- Could one project deserve your complete attention for just an hour? Or even 30 focused minutes?
- What is the most impactful task or project worthy of your attention?

Most business owners don't have a time problem per se. They have a prioritization problem. Before diving into your inbox, or letting your task list change the day's direction, practice pausing for a moment. Is the thing you're about to do actually a priority? Maybe it is, and you confirm that proceeding is the best course of action. But what if it isn't? You could redirect significant time and energy toward a better cause.

This is where I see people routinely spin their wheels: "Everything feels equally important!" It might all be on a spectrum of important, but chances are there's a particular starting place that carries more impact. If we just allow ourselves a moment to sift through the noise, it becomes easier to prioritize.
