Pima Library Foundation

Our donors’ support makes it possible for the Library to bring engaging artists and creative programs to youth at the Juvenile Detention Center. In September, artist Dolores Haro guided youth through creating their own lotería-style moon paintings (an example of that style shown here). The experience gave them space to explore their creativity, express themselves, and take pride in something they created. When released, the youth can take their original paintings with them. In the meantime, color reproductions are displayed in the library above the Spanish-language book collection—a lasting reminder of their creativity and accomplishments.

The Pima Library Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit that raises private support to help the Pima County Public Library expand programs, resources and opportunities for our community. Are we the same as Friends of the Library? No. We share the same love for our Library, but we support it in different ways. Are we part of the Library? Happy Labor Day! Today, we’re celebrating the incredible people who make the Pima County Public Library system so special. We are excited to introduce our newest member of the Pima Library Foundation team, Halianna Piller! She is based out of Phoenix, AZ and is supporting the Foundation through the AmeriCorps Arizona Serve program. Halianna works in technology, has a passion for service and likes photography. Welcome to the team Halianna!

The Pima Library Foundation is supporting the Pima County Public Library’s program at the Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) again this year. This program connects justice-involved youth with Library resources that support their educational, recreational and cultural needs. Financial support for this program provides program/presenter expenses (community members who present at the JDC are an example of caring adults rooting for their success) and technology that will provide corrections-grade access to digital Library materials for the FIRST TIME.

The Pima Library Foundation is excited to announce this year’s funding initiatives. We are continuing our support of the Pima County Public Library's program at the Juvenile Detention Center. This program provides resources to support educational, recreational and information needs. The second Library program is 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This program supports early literacy through parents reading with their children. The third program is the Library’s Outreach Program. The Library’s Affinity Teams provide outreach to local Latinx and Indigenous communities, participate in events where they share information about the Library and encourage people to sign up for Library cards. We look forward to sharing more soon!

During this time of year we meet with the Library and learn about where they need support. Together we work to match their needs with what our donors care about most. It's an exciting time as we determine our initiatives for the next year.
