OKPOP and the OKPOP Foundation mourn the loss of our dear friend and supporter, John Reaves.
A true champion of the arts, John had a deep passion for local music and an enduring love for Oklahoma’s film, music, and creative communities. When the OKPOP Phase II Capital Campaign first began, John and Leigh were among the very first to step forward. Their early belief and generous support helped lay the groundwork to ensure our state’s rich artistic heritage and homegrown talent are forever celebrated.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude, and deepest condolences to Leigh, Claire, and the entire Reaves family.

Though we're a couple of generations removed from his fame, Tom Mix was one of the biggest Hollywood stars of the silent film era. Though born in Pennsylvania, he lived for many years in Oklahoma, working as a bartender, marshal, and as a performer with the Miller Brothers 101 Ranch. He lived in Oklahoma for the better part of a decade, having called Guthrie, Dewey, and Ponca City home at some point or another.

We’re deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Oklahoma songwriting legend Terry “Buffalo” Ware.
A gifted songwriter, guitarist, and collaborator, Buffalo helped shape Oklahoma’s rich musical legacy through decades of creativity, generosity, and quiet excellence. We were honored to sit down with him and preserve his story through an oral history interview for the Oklahoma Historical Society archives and future OKPOP exhibits.
If you’re looking for a meaningful way to celebrate his remarkable life and career, we encourage you to seek out his memoir, Man with Guitar and Amp: A Sideman’s Memoir, released just last month. It’s a fitting reflection on a life spent making music, supporting fellow artists, and leaving an enduring mark on countless songs and stages.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, collaborators, and the many musicians whose lives he touched.
Thank you, Buffalo, for the music, the stories, and the legacy you leave behind. 🎸 Terry Ware
