Moving into an independent living community is a big transition, and family support during those first weeks can make an enormous difference. Here are some of the most meaningful ways to help a parent settle in and feel truly at home.
• Visit often while they’re getting settled.
• Fill their new home with favorite photos and familiar keepsakes.
• Encourage them to join a meal or activity and meet new people.
• Ask about the new friends they’ve made and what they’ve enjoyed.
• Be patient. Feeling at home takes time, but it happens one conversation, one meal, and one new friendship at a time.

Growing a garden takes time, care, and people willing to lend a hand.
The Jewish Community Center and A New Leaf were hard at work in the garden today. Their dedication helps make this a place where fresh produce, friendships, and community continue to grow.
Thank you to The Jewish Community Center for creating this fresh garden.

On World Brain Day, it is a reminder that taking care of your brain is just as important as taking care of your body.
Simple daily habits can help support brain health at any age. Stay physically active, eat a balanced diet, challenge your mind with puzzles or games, spend time with others, get quality sleep, and stay hydrated.
We believe a healthy lifestyle includes caring for both body and mind. Every conversation, walk, game, class, and shared meal is another opportunity to stay engaged and connected.

This heat is more than just uncomfortable. It can be very dangerous.
High temperatures and humidity can put extra stress on the body. That is why it is so important to take a few simple precautions when spending time outdoors.
A few reminders:
• Drink water throughout the day, even if you are not thirsty.
• Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
• Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the afternoon.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat if you are outside.
• Check in on friends, neighbors, and loved ones during extreme heat.
If you begin to feel dizzy, confused, weak, or nauseated, move to a cool place right away and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and take care of yourself this week.

Keeping your brain healthy is just as important as taking care of the rest of your body, and what you eat can help.
A few foods that are especially good for brain health include:
- Fatty fish like salmon for healthy omega-3s
- Berries packed with antioxidants
- Dark chocolate to support blood flow and focus
- Nuts and seeds for healthy fats and vitamin E
- Coffee and tea for a boost in alertness
- Leafy greens full of brain-friendly nutrients
- Whole grains for steady energy throughout the day
- Eggs, which are rich in choline for memory support
- Beans and lentils to help keep energy levels steady
- Olive oil, a staple of the heart and brain healthy Mediterranean diet
Good nutrition supports the whole body, including the brain.

FAQ: What is the difference between Independent Living and Assisted Living?
Independent Living is for people who want the freedom of living on their own, with the added benefits of community, dining, activities, and fewer day-to-day responsibilities.
Assisted Living offers those same benefits, along with additional support for things like medication management, dressing, bathing, and other daily tasks.
The right choice comes down to the level of support that fits your lifestyle today, with options available if needs change tomorrow.
