🏁 MEET THE PORT CITY TEAM — JEAN KIMBREL 🏁

You’ve already met Tim Kimbrel, so it’s only fitting that we introduce the amazing woman who has been by his side through all those racing miles — Jean Kimbrel! ❤️🏁

Jean was born and raised in Dewey, Oklahoma, home of the Bulldoggers, alongside her three siblings. During her senior year of high school, she began working at Reda Pump in Bartlesville through a work-coop program. Sixteen years later, she moved on to Phillips 66, where she spent 22 years before retiring.

But Jean’s creativity has always been a huge part of who she is. She learned to sew at just 14 years old and has tried just about every craft you can imagine! From sewing, macramé and cake decorating to candy and sucker making, hand embroidery, cross-stitch, ceramics, shirt making, flower arranging, costume making and machine embroidery — Jean is always ready to create something new!

And then there’s the story of how racing entered her life…

While working at Reda Pump and raising her three children as a single mom, Jean became friends with Nita Sawyer through a conversation about ceramics. Jean remembers hearing about Nita’s weekend plans, which almost always included, “Mike’s racing.”

Jean admits that her opinionated self probably thought that sounded a little crazy at the time! Nita eventually wanted Jean to meet Tim, who, of course, was part of that racing crowd.

After some stalling, Jean and Tim finally met when they both happened to show up at Mike’s birthday party in July of 1988. By October, they were married! ❤️

Jean says her life changed in a major way from that point on. Together, she and Tim have traveled countless miles following racing, making lifelong friendships and creating memories along the way. They went from racing trips to traveling on a Gold Wing motorcycle with a camper in tow, eventually graduating to an RV.

Through all those adventures, they’ve met so many wonderful people who have become lifelong friends. And according to Tim, Jean lived a pretty sheltered life before he came along — and Jean admits he may be right!

Today, Jean and Tim are proud grandparents to seven grandkids, including their youngest, who has definitely made his presence known around the track with his big personality! They’re also kept company by their two schnauzers.

Jean’s story is a perfect reminder that sometimes the biggest adventures in life come from the people who unexpectedly change your path. We’re so glad racing brought Jean to Tim — and ultimately brought them both to Port City Raceway!

🏁 MEET THE PORT CITY TEAM: SHANNON BARNES! 🏁

This week, we’re introducing you to Shannon Barnes, a familiar face around racing who has recently joined the Port City Raceway family!

Shannon grew up watching her family race at the fairgrounds, creating a love for racing that has stayed with her throughout her life. After spending some time away from the track, she moved back to Tulsa and met her soon-to-be husband, who happened to be a racecar driver at Tulsa Speedway on 66th Street North. The two were married in 1989 and went on to raise three children.

Shannon has five grandchildren, and when she’s not at the racetrack, you can usually find her cheering them on at a sporting event or band performance. Being a grandmother keeps her busy and proud!

After mostly watching racing over the years, Shannon decided to take the next step and join the team at Port City Raceway in April of this year. This is her first time working for a racetrack, and we’re so happy to have her as part of our team!

Please help us welcome Shannon and show her some love the next time you see her at the track! ❤️🏁
