This is Roxanne ❤️ And this is what fear can look like in a rescue dog.
The shaking you see in this video isn’t Roxanne being “stubborn”, unfriendly, or difficult. She is overwhelmed and scared, and right now her body is telling us that she doesn’t feel safe enough to relax yet.
Roxanne is currently in MARR’s foster care and is spending a week with Delta Canine, where she can be closely observed and we can continue learning what she needs to feel safe and successful.
Dogs who are this shut down often need something very different from what our instinct tells us to give them. We want to hug them, pet them, reassure them, and show them that they’re loved- but for a frightened dog, even well-intentioned attention can feel like pressure.
Sometimes the kindest thing we can give them is time, space, predictability, and the ability to make choices.
Shaking, hiding, avoiding eye contact, freezing, trying to make themselves small, or pulling away from touch can all be signs that a dog is experiencing significant fear or stress. These behaviors can tell us how a dog is feeling, but they don’t necessarily tell us exactly what happened in their past.
We will never know Roxanne’s full story or the extend of the abuse she endured.
What we do know is what we can give her from this point forward: patience, safety, consistency, and people willing to meet her where she is. ❤️
For dogs like Roxanne, progress may not look dramatic. It might be choosing to come a little closer. Taking a treat. Relaxing enough to sleep deeply. Showing curiosity instead of immediately retreating. Allowing a gentle touch. Those tiny moments are huge victories!
Rescue isn’t always the freedom ride where a dog immediately realizes they’re safe. Sometimes rescue is helping a terrified dog slowly learn, day by day, or even month by month, that they no longer have to be afraid.
We’re going to give Roxanne all the time she needs. 🤎

🐾 Sadie’s Surgery Update ❤️
Sadie had surgery to repair her torn ACL, and she is officially in recovery mode.
She has an 8–12 week recovery ahead of her, which means lots of rest, rehab, and absolutely NO running, jumping, or general shenanigans. Unfortunately, Sadie was not consulted about these rules. 😜
Her current priorities include:
Looking as pitiful as possible for maximum treats. 🥺
Making sure everyone knows she has been personally victimized by the word “NO.” 😂
Supervising her foster family from her luxury crate.
Planning her triumphant return to causing trouble on all four legs.

🍂 FALL IS HERE, AND DUNCAN IS READY TO FALL INTO HIS NEW FOSTER OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT HOME! 🍂
🤎FOSTER NEEDED FOR DUNCAN 🤎
Duncan is a 6-year-old, 120-pound male who desperately needs someone to open their home and their heart.
Duncan was once an indoor dog. He was crate trained, housebroken, and part of a family. But his owner left him behind, and Duncan found himself spending his days outside, largely without the love and companionship he once knew and loved.
Because he had been left outside sharing little food with another dog, there were instances of resource guarding around the food bowl. This is something that will need to continue to be managed and evaluated.
Someone had been stopping by to feed him, but their options were running out. The only place they could take Duncan was a local shelter that euthanizes, and we simply did not know how much time he had. 💔
Duncan deserves better than this.
Since coming into our care, Duncan has had time to settle and decompress, and we are getting to see more of who he really is. ❤️
He is easy to walk on a leash and quickly attaches himself to people. He wants to know his person is there and will happily reward them with kisses on their hands. Duncan has shown himself to be sensitive, gentle, smart, and incredibly affectionate.
The staff caring for him have had no problems with him and enjoy having him there. He isn’t particularly interested in toys and would much rather watch what is going on around him and spend time with his people🥺
When Duncan was originally evaluated, both a male and female stranger were present, and he still wanted nothing more than attention and affection. He sought out human interaction and showed that sweet, unconditional love that tells you there is still so much good inside this big boy. ❤️
When it comes to other dogs, Duncan will need slow, structured introductions. He hasn’t had a lot of exposure and can get overly excited, but he’s shown potential when given time, space, and guidance. Decompression, patience, and mental enrichment will be very important for his success!
He has previously lived around older children.
A MARR board member is currently covering Duncan’s boarding so he can stay safe while we search for a foster or foster-to-adopt home. ❤️ MARR will still be responsible for his vetting and ongoing care while in foster, and our funds are extremely low right now.

❤️ MEET GIANA! ❤️
Giana is a beautiful 6-year-old who is ready to find her FOREVER HOME! 🏡🐾
Giana is a big lap dog at heart who absolutely loves being with her people. She is affectionate, playful, confident, smart, and people-centered. She has no preference between men or women and is good with kids ages 10 and older. ❤️
🎾 This girl knows how to have fun! Giana loves balls, stuffed animals, rope toys, playing tug, and especially playing in water. A sprinkler or hose is one of her favorite things! 💦 She’s food motivated, loves treats, and takes them gently.
Giana has some great manners, too! 👏
She walks GREAT on a leash, is crate trained, has no separation anxiety, and knows sit, stay, wait, and down. She’s a smart girl who catches on quickly and can even ring a bell at the door when she needs to go outside!
🐾 Giana is best as the only dog in her home. She is a confident, assertive girl and will be happiest in a home where she can soak up all the love and attention as the one and only pup👑
Her compatibility with cats is currently unknown.
Her foster describes Giana as a great family dog who loves being with people. She has no known medical concerns and is ready to settle into a forever home with a family of her own. 🥰

Meet Ralph! ❤️ This happy, sweet, people-centered guy is looking for a foster home where he can relax, recover, and show us his true personality. He is 4 years old and currently in a shelter in Kansas City, Kansas. Transport is available for fosters within MARR’s coverage area.

Ralph recently had entropion surgery on both eyes, so he’s currently focused on recovering and adjusting. His shelter evaluation was limited, but he was friendly and affectionate with the women he met and showed no negative reaction to people passing by.
He’s a sweet boy who deserves a chance to decompress in a loving home. With some good food, patience, and TLC, we think Ralph will really shine! 🐶❤️

❤️ SADIE’S SECOND CHANCE- WE NEED YOUR HELP! ❤️
2 ½ hours.
Sadie had just 2 ½ hours left to live when MARR stepped in and said, “Not today.” ❤️
This beautiful 6-year-old girl came to us severely underweight, covered in sores, unspayed, and with a badly swollen back leg. Despite everything she had been through, Sadie immediately showed us just how special she is. She loves everyone she meets, thinks every dog should be her best friend, and is an absolute JOY. 🥰
But once the swelling went down, we discovered Sadie has been living with a torn ACL in her back right leg- an old, painful injury that now requires surgery.
💔 Her surgery is estimated to cost $4,500.
And right now, MARR’s funding is LOW. Veterinary care for the dogs we save adds up incredibly fast, and we simply cannot continue saying “yes” to dogs like Sadie without your help and support.
We saved Sadie hours before she was going to lose her life. Now we need your help giving her a life without pain.

💚BUTTERBEAN NEEDS A FOSTER! 💚
How can anyone resist that face?! 🥹🖤
Butterbean is a handsome 2-year-old, 90-pound Rottweiler looking for a foster home where he can get the love, attention, and guidance he deserves.
Butterbean is a friendly, playful young guy who is willing to learn and would love someone who can continue helping him learn and grow. He has done well with adults and children and is house-trained and crate-trained. He currently lives with cats and really wants to play with them, even if they aren’t nearly as interested in playing with him. 😂🐱
Butterbean hasn’t had the opportunity to experience a lot in his young life, and we would love to see him in a foster home where he can be part of the family. He would especially benefit from someone with Rottweiler experience who can give him consistency, structure, training, and plenty of attention.

Giana is a 6-year-old sweet, fun-loving girl who absolutely loves her people. She is friendly, affectionate, confident, outgoing, playful, smart, and very people-centered. She loves attention and will happily try to convince you that she belongs in your lap. 🥰

It’s hard to believe Nipsey hasn’t found his Adoptive home yet!!! He is currently being loved and Fostered in Evanston IL. Transport is available for Adoptions within MARR’s coverage area(details in post)
Nipsey is an amazing boy! He is goofy and joyful while also extremely smart and agile. Everyone who has met him has loved him! He has been around numerous children and adults with no issues, although when a group of children were being loud and jumping around in the next room, he got nervous and barked. He will do best in a home with respectful and Rottie-savvy children. He has been a joy to have in our home these past few months as he has recovered from pneumonia as well as a cryptorchid neuter. Through all of the long car rides, Vet visits, x-rays and numerous rounds of meds, Nipsey has been patient and agreeable with all of it. He is a normally quiet dog, using his eyes to tell you what he needs, but when an ambulance or firetruck goes by, he will howl along with their sirens, it is the cutest! It has been wonderful watching him go from a lethargic, extremely sick dog that was literally one day away from euthanasia to this happy-go-lucky, fit, BIG boy that moves like he is 30 pounds less than he actually is. He loves being fed but will patiently sit, wait for his bowl to be filled, and will not eat until he hears “ok.” He has not shown any food aggression and can be hand-fed. Nipsey will happily load into his crate and patiently wait to receive a treat for doing so. He will often choose to take a nap in his crate or will retreat there when his foster is working and making too much noise. Nipsey loves eating the water from the hose and sees anything ball-shape as a toy to play fetch with. He will share his toys with dogs but prefers to keep everything for himself. His foster’s resident dog has been very patient as he learned how to play with dogs and not just play fetch with his humans. He recently engaged in a game of chase with his foster’s dog, it was fun to watch it evolve. This Good Boy loves his cuddles but will be respectful if your hand gets tired. He will either lay next to you or find something to entertain himself with…he really just wants to be near his humans. He is good on a leash, initially, he is very excited but he knows heel and will swing around next to you and sit until you lead him on. He could use more practice but we have had a lot of really great walks. He is housetrained and keeps his bed clean. Nipsey is a dream dog! He is joyful, happy, easy-going and kind. He has not growled once in the 4 months he has been with his foster. He loves his foster’s son who will let him into the yard so he can be the first to greet his Foster Mom when she comes home from work. The wiggle in his nubbin and smile in his eyes makes any problem of the day disappear. Nipsey will be a wonderful addition in any Rottie-savvy and quiet home. Get your throwing arm ready for a boy who loves to play fetch and is as goofy as can be!
