Dear Friends, Its been awhile but wanted to update you since leaving council. I am now working for Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry. Wanted to share a bit about our work.

I grew up in Dawson, watching my father, David Patrick, roll up his sleeves and work alongside his neighbors as a northeast Tulsa City Council member. His compassion-driven, community-centered example shaped who I am, and when I joined the Tulsa City Council myself, it was his legacy I carried with me. So when I left the Council in late 2024, it felt natural to take on a new role that honors the same spirit. I joined Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry (TMM) as Executive Director. TMM is an interfaith 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been serving this community for nearly 90 years. You may already know some of their work: Life Senior Services, Youth Services of Tulsa, and the Daycenter are just a few of the programs TMM has built over the decades. Now, TMM is embarking on its most ambitious initiative yet — the Dawson Commons — and I'm asking for your support.

TMM’s Dawson Commons is a developing 29-acre community hub at the corner of Pine and Yale. This initiative will offer multiple programs and resources to address some of our communities most critical needs, including food insecurity, education, and housing.

We’re beginning with Phase 1. The Bazaar, a micro grocery store and food truck court bringing much-needed food access to Dawson. Membership is free for neighborhood residents, and just $25 a year for everyone else. The food trucks operating on-site will receive free space and utilities in exchange for contributing to providing free daily meals for over 450 students at nearby schools, where many children would otherwise go hungry.

Two doors down, the Community Kitchen will offer cooking and food preservation classes for kids and adults, a community garden and orchard, and a rentable kitchen and office space for local entrepreneurs. Together, The Bazaar and Community Kitchen will address the full cycle of food access, from growing and buying to preparing and serving!

In Phase 2, TMM will open District 3's first coffee shop, develop a four-story mixed-use housing complex with ground-floor retail opportunities, and Metro Mechanics — a program near to my heart. In honor of my father, Metro Mechanics will offer low- to no-cost auto repair alongside a high school internship program in mechanics and bodywork, designed to welcome students who face academic barriers to other school programs. My dad knew that experience firsthand with challenges in required testing. He graduated high school in the 1960s largely because he could fix his teachers' cars, at a time when no one recognized, let alone accommodated, his dyslexia. This internship is his legacy made practical.

And for Phase 3? TMM has deliberately left space to grow, and we’ll let the community tell us what comes next.

The Dawson Commons is only possible with the support of people who believe in this neighborhood. Will you invest in it with us? You can donate directly at tmmtulsa.org. A gift of $25 could give an underserved family a grocery membership for a full year. A gift of $100 could help equip the Metro Mechanics shop and put tools in the hands of a young person who needs a chance. What to make a more substantial donation, We would happily name our kitchen after a generous supporter. Every dollar given goes directly to work in Dawson.

Pretty flowers of healing! Thank you for all of your well wishes and treats. I am healing well. Slow but sure they tell me wins the race. Feeling good enough for company now for all who have asked.

I want to thank everyone for your suport over the years. It has truly been an honor to serve you as the district 3 representative. I have decided to pass the torch and not run for reelection. I will be concentrating my efforts in my dawson community after November. In the upcoming election I will be supporting Jackie Dutton. Jackie is a very engaged district 3 resident who just retired from owning and operating Mad dog liquor store on 11th. She has a huge heart for service and really knows the whole district. She has served on the rt66 commission and led some community action meetings around boeing park. She volunteers with many organizations. She will be an incredible representative for district 3. Please join me in support of Jackie Dutton.
