Weathermore Academy

Our Primary students have been busy putting their hands to the work of making something beautiful.

At Weathermore, art is more than an occasional activity. Students learn to slow down, observe carefully, follow a form, practice a skill, and delight in creating something worthwhile.

These early encounters with beauty help train the eye, the hand, and the imagination.
And sometimes, the best thing to do is simply step back and enjoy what they have made.

Wrestling with Ancient Texts

In Classical Studies, we do more than study the history of a people. We read their literature.

As our students study the ancient world, they are also reading through the Iliad, the Odyssey, and the Aeneid, encountering the stories and questions that helped shape the civilizations we are studying.

These are not always easy texts. That is part of their value.

Students learn to wrestle with unfamiliar language and ideas, to ask good questions, and to consider themes of courage, duty, home, pride, sacrifice, fate, and the gods through the words of the ancient authors themselves.
We want our students not simply to know about the ancient world, but to have encountered something of its inheritance for themselves.

Generations Day at Weathermore

One of the great gifts of education is that we do not begin with ourselves. We receive from those who came before us, and in time, we are entrusted with the work of handing those good things on.

Earlier this month, we welcomed grandparents and special guests into the life of Weathermore for Generations Day. They joined our students in their classrooms, shared stories and conversation, and experienced a little of the ordinary life of our school.

We are grateful for the generations who have loved, taught, prayed for, and helped form the children entrusted to us.

What we receive with gratitude, we seek to hand on faithfully.

A serious education asks students to think well.

In Mathematics, students learn to reason carefully and pursue what is true. In Latin, they learn to attend closely to language, grammar, and meaning.

Both require precision, discipline, and sustained attention.

At Weathermore, we believe students are capable of doing difficult things, and doing them well.

Education is not only the formation of the mind.

Physical Education gives our students the opportunity to develop strength, coordination, perseverance, and good sportsmanship while enjoying the simple pleasure of playing together.

At Weathermore, we seek to cultivate the whole person. #

What does it mean to learn science?

Our Upper School Physical Science students have been practicing careful measurement and putting those skills to work in a Gravitational Potential Energy Lab.

Science is more than learning formulas from a page. Students learn to observe carefully, measure accurately, test what they have learned, and understand the order of the physical world.

This is Physical Science at Weathermore Academy.

Every Wednesday, our Upper School students read to our Primary students.

It is a simple tradition, but an important one. Younger students hear good stories. Older students learn to lead. And across the school, students learn that what we receive, we pass on.

This is life at Weathermore. This is what we mean by Education Can Be Beautiful
