Fire Prevention Week: October 4–10, 2026
The Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation is proud to renew its partnership with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for the 29th annual Fire Safety Newspapers in Education program. The program helps students and families prevent fire-related injuries and property loss.
This year’s 16-page publication covers essential home fire prevention lessons, with special attention to lithium-ion battery safety. Developed with subject matter experts, it offers engaging, practical information for school-aged readers and their families.
This year’s edition will appear in the October 4th Journal Sentinel. More than 60,000 copies are being distributed to over 250 schools and fire departments across Wisconsin.

🚒 As we charge into the month of October, Fire Prevention Month is upon us! 🔥
Next week, we’ll be visiting our local schools and talking with students about this year’s Fire Prevention Month theme and important ways they can help keep themselves, their families, and their homes safe.
🏠 Talk to your kids about what they learned! Ask them about fire safety, their home escape plan, and what they can do in an emergency.
🔌 And don’t forget to check your home for safe charging habits. Make sure devices and batteries are being charged safely, on appropriate surfaces, and according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
A few minutes of prevention today can make a huge difference tomorrow.
Stay safe, stay informed, and remember—fire prevention starts at home! ❤️🔥🚒

As we near fire prevention week, a good reminder from the PFFW.
Cooking fires remain one of the leading causes of home fires and injuries. Help keep your kitchen safe with these quick tips from your local firefighters:
• Never leave cooking food unattended on the stovetop.
• Keep anything that can catch fire; towels, oven mitts, and wooden utensils away from the burner.
• Keep a lid nearby to smother small grease fires quickly.
Take a moment today to share these simple precautions with family and neighbors.
