Season Roulette is my first cousin! So proud!!🥲
Chief Season Roulette recently attended Loving Justice Conference 2026: Restoring Our Laws, Teachings & Ways of Life 🪶
Last week, Chief Season Roulette had the honour of taking part in the 3rd annual Loving Justice Conference, hosted by Our Children Our Way Society alongside Piikáni Child and Family Services, held September 13–16, 2026 in Calgary.
This year's theme, "Restoring Our Laws, Teachings & Ways of Life," brought together First Nations, Indigenous organizations, and partners to share modern and traditional knowledge while navigating the shifting landscape of Indigenous child and family jurisdiction.
Attending conferences like this is vital to our community's journey toward self-governance. They create space to learn from one another, build lasting relationships, and strengthen our collective voice as we work to reclaim jurisdiction over our own laws, teachings, and ways of life for the benefit of our children and families for generations to come. This work directly supports Chief Season Roulette's role as holder of the KSMA portfolio, allowing her to bring forward new knowledge and connections that strengthen this important area of her work.
Chief Roulette had the opportunity to connect and take a photo with Dr. Cindy Blackstock, a leading voice in Indigenous child welfare advocacy.

Somatic regulation isn't new our Ancestors have held these healing practices for generations.
When we feel overwhelmed or dysregulated, returning to traditional cultural practices helps anchor our nervous system in safety and community:
1. Smudging & Intention: Using sacred medicines to clear energy and refocus the mind.
2. Connection to the Land: Feeling the Earth beneath your feet to ground physical tension.
3. Song & Rhythm: Using drum or vocal rhythm to naturally regulate breathing.
Which traditional practice helps you feel most grounded when facing daily stress? Share below. 🧡🌾

Stimming is mostly talked about in the neurodivergent and autistic communities, but in truth, almost all people stim on occasion in some way (pencil tapping, hair twirling, chewing on pens).
If it’s unusual, repetitive, intense, frequent, or needed in order to stay regulated, focused, and on task- stimming is more associated with Autism.
Stimming is usually beneficial to Autistic people (even if you cannot easily see the benefits from looking on the outside), and should not be stopped, blocked, or discouraged- unless it is harmful to the person or others around the person.
When stims are harmful, finding a replacement stim that meets the same need can be helpful (although often tricky and difficult to get right- it can take time and many trial and errors!)

What is Indigenous Focused Oriented Therapy (IFOT), and how does it support healing?
Unlike traditional talk therapy alone, IFOT recognizes that trauma lives in our bodies, land connection, and spirit. It focuses on body-centered somatic awareness with Indigenous ways of knowing to help regulate the nervous system safely.
Our practitioners integrate IFOT to honor your unique story, strengths, and cultural heritage.
