When you sit down to meditate, something shocking happens: Your mind is full of thoughts. It's full of all kinds of crap. Have you noticed that? Then you're a good meditator. 😉

Here's a little poem I wrote while contemplating the sun 🌞

A Dream at the Horizon

In the clear open sky
I see the sun moving towards the west.
Is this just my dream
Or am I still awake?
Will the sun shine in the western hemisphere
Or will it just disappear at the horizon?
People are busy fishing.
I wonder if they have noticed the sunshine?
Beach is very tempting.
But can you enjoy it without the sun?
Food is necessary for life.
But will it grow without the sun’s warmth?
Its time for what we enjoy the most—
The sunset that we always romanticize.
Please enjoy the last rays of light.

What to let go, and what to keep, when you meditate 😉

Meditation starts with taking a centered, upright, comfortable posture
When you sit down to meditate, something shocking happens:

Your mind is full of thoughts
It's full of all kinds of crap

Have you noticed that?
Then you're a good meditator

At first, when you see all these thoughts you think, "This is terrible. My meditation is not working"

But when you see your thoughts,
it's actually the first moment
your meditation is working

Change happens even while you think things are staying the same. At that moment, it’s already changing. One minute you think you’re in control: “Everything 's going fine.” But if you look a little closer, it’s changing. . .

What Buddha taught is that there’s no need to control change. We just need to change our perception. We need to change how we look at change. We need to develop skill and wisdom to adapt to change. Once you have that skill, you can make the best use of a changing situation.

Just meeting this mind right now, as it is: that is meditation.
