Nutrition is the foundation of health. Prayer heals. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ₯¬πŸ₯¦πŸ₯‘βœοΈ Now I found myself doing the same thing with my body, mind and soul. Yes, 27.

Older athlete who believes in eating more real food that God provided, balance blood sugar, microbiome and hormones, lower inflammation and manage stress better for every season of life. Chronic or acute periods of stress create imbalances, inflammation, food compulsions and eventually physical pain, fatigue, GI distress and health issues. I help you unravel how you got your symptoms, and implements easy-to-follow steps so you can regain your health quickly and maintain it for life. My adrenal exhaustion and later arthritic hip helped me learn that food can be medicine, or it can be your painful poison. I watched as my mother doted over my sister for 2 years prior who had chronic fatigue, a mainstream medical term for adrenal exhaustion. 2 years later, I found myself alone in my health journey to recovery. As a kid, i loved taking things apart, seeing how it worked and put it back together so it would work better. I wanted to find out how I got so exhausted, work through the layers and find a way out naturally. I dove into research and worked with a nutritionist who at one point suggested 27 different supplements. But I learned my body wanted real food! It loved juicing and shockingly, it also loved green vegetables and did better with potatoes than fruit. Coffee and a clif bar so I could go do my next 2 hour workout were no longer acceptable. As a competitive athlete, I needed to be competitive with my recovery. The only way was to improve my nutrition, but also improve how it was I was dealing with stress. I needed to fuel my body, but also my mind with positive thoughts and self-love acts. It was the ongoing emotional, mental and physical stress from triathlon training (which was at one point the only way I knew how to deal with stress - a 2 hour run or 80+ mile bike ride!). I had to learn how to face the stressors rather than run away from them. I was able to get back to not just training, but competition without medication and eventually without the supplements, too. I did relapse, but that was also another opportunity to learn how my body handled stress and how to find balance differently than I had defined it before. 20 years later, I am helping other athletes face their health challenges and stressors with love, compassion and understanding and fuel their body with real food that fits who they are. I created the Be Whole system which includes practical real-food nutrition, anti-inflammatory protocols and emotional release techniques so you can attain a new level of health and balance. If you are ready to reach a new level of health, balance and performance that you can maintain for life, schedule a 30 minute chat. We can discuss your story and situation and what would be best options to regain your health, ease your pain and create a body and life you love. https://calendly.com/joanna-nim/15mins

Do you like getting handwritten notes saying Thank You?

I know I do!

I got a Thank You note from Girls on The Run - a local non profit who offer young girls the community to build life skills while training for a 5k run.

I donated $$ but also healthy snack ideas for the coaches and the parents so they could help the girls fuel the runs, training and recovery!

I also send thank you cards - why?
because a personalized card means way more to the recipient! Plus I like sending them πŸ™‚

Do you like receiving a handwritten Thank You??

when is the last time you got one?

Yesterday I was at the Chamber Thrive Wellness event which was also a networking event at Elmwood Zoo!

I am not sure about networking part but I did meet some great businesses - some to potentially partner with!

I wish I could have stayed longer but I had to jet out as I had to teach my Divine Mercy Study group which is always a pleasure too and a great privilege to teach, learn and pray together. The Divine Mercy is for sure the greatest message of hope for our times! πŸ™πŸ»βœοΈπŸŒΉ

I did pack my own meal as it ended up I would have missed eating if I had not brought my own snacks!

I had a few people say 'you really look healthy and are a great model for what you do!'

I'll accept that!!

Wellness is a lifestyle and if you don't take a whole body approach like I do, then you won't change the outcome. You'll just treat symptoms vs healing or repairing the foundation...

Sorry, no animal shots 😞

Thank you Montgo Chamber for a great event!

Truth is, as I get older, I have to adjust to what my body needs...and I am seeking some answers to what I don't understand yet.

I asked my doctor to do some specific blood work to rule out insulin resistance, inflammation and she wanted to test the LDL particle size...

Glucose is great.
Insulin is great.
Hemoglobin a1c is 5.6, up .2 from last year...hmm
HDL is up to 74 so exceptional, but my LDL is now 169, so I am searching for more natural ways to lower
the particle size is 4, so not an issue
Blood pressure is 108/80, resting pulse is finally under 70.

I am 10 pounds heavier than last year...and I lift, bike, run, swim and walk!

The gained weight - some is muscle..but some is extra blubber ugh. My clothes that I wore for the last 30 years are not fitting well.

I signed up for Menopause 2.0 course with Dr Sims and maybe there I will find more answers, not just for me, but for other women, too. And another for joint health.

Truth is, I do have to lower the saturated fat intake which I didn't really pay attention to. The month before I did my testing, I ate pork ribs and cheese often - I was focusing on eating the foods that lower it! Not what would increase it cause I didn't really think it mattered...well, it does!

Truth is, the shift is there, and I too have to be honest and how to eat just a wee bit better!

I do have to continue with real food and balancing the blood sugar, βœ…
I have to continue with anti-inflammatory foods, βœ…
I do have to continue with lifting weights twice a week and moving my body every day. check βœ…

Truth is I DO have to adjust my saturated fats...
Truth is, I AM curious to find more natural alternatives so I can help more women athletes in this stage of life...

I am thankful I can experience this, so I can empathize but also to coach you better. What is driving you crazy about getting older?

I know there is a connection between the brain and the gut. I learned this early on when I was going to work at the Institute for Advancement of Human Potential. They worked with babies and kids with brain issues - downs, autism, other brain injuries.

And their first line of defense was nutrition and food sensitivities. Not necessarily by testing but process of elimination and rotating foods, plus probiotics and fish oils for but and brain health support....and always using real food first while eliminating processed foods.

Below is clearly a severe case, but it again shows that what you eat matters.

If you want to work on your symptoms, work with me or someone who like me, works on the whole body not just a symptom. If we don't ask 'why is this happening. Why is this symptom here? or address what you eat, then you may get partial results and if only supplements, then relapse once you stop.

For lasting results, at every stage of life, nutrition has to be addressed along with lifestyle, not just address the symptom with a pill.

Hard to believe, 24 years ago TODAY, i became solo owner of my townhome here in philly.
First in family to own a home on my own....far, far away from family.
First to move out of state and not come back....other sisters left but returned to Chicago.

Every time I think of how I got here to North Wales, I thank God for He made it possible! Despite my job transitions, the job market drying up after 9-11 and me taking a new position where they moved me out here....it was all God's plan.

I fell in love with this area, and once when I was running thru this neighborhood shortly after moving, I thought...'this is a cute hood...' and 4-6 months later I bought this townhouse.

24 years later, I still love this hood. Neighbors are nice. It is still cute and I can ride my bike right out the driveway, walk or run on quiet lamp-filled streets, and run and play tennis just across the street!

How should I celebrate??

Truth is, if you don't balance the blood sugar well, you are setting yourself up for sweet cravings, cortisol spikes and subpar metabolism.
You create stress and respond to the stress with poor food choices.

Not because you are inept or 'bad', but because no one taught you the basics : how to eat more real food and balance blood sugar!

No matter what my clients come in for:
- weight gain
- chronic pain
- arthritis or other auto-immune issue
- chronic GI issues
- fueling athletic performance, muscle gain or recovery
I always start with the basics :

- eat more real food
- balance the blood sugar
- help you do that for your body, schedule and life.

Not everyone cooks like me, enjoys ir or has time for cooking so my job is to help you make better choices and understand how to take your current meal and add or subtract things to get that balanced plate.

Some protein, some carbs, lots of vegetables and colors on your plate.

Here is my recovery breakfast which was delicious but you may ask - where is the carb?
How is this balanced?

It isn't but it is healthy....i did have half a roasted potato afterwards as I hadn't realized it until I finished my egg scramble with leeks, sorrel, gruyere, italian prosciutto.

Did you have a balanced meal that will balance your blood sugar?

This weekend I was part of the prayer teams at AbbeyFest - a day of music, worship, fellowship, the opportunity for confession and to receive prayer, plus mass with Archbishop Perez and adoration and more music.

Archbishop Perez always delivers a great homily! And this time was all about not grumbling about fairness but praising God's generosity! But so often we feel jipped, or life being unfair as we compare what we don't have to other's haves.
Whether you realize it, all you have is a gift from God. yes we look at what is missing vs what is given or whether it is fair or not.

God is always looking for us to labor for him and with him....but do we grumble because we see someone else get more? Can we be thankful for we have received?
Can we be thankful for God's endless generosity?

Then to witness all the freedom through prayer - Jesus was moving, the Holy Spirit was moving, God was moving - healing broken hearts, leading some through forgiveness then pouring God's love on them.

It was truly a blessing to be a part of this and then I, too received prayer as after one prayer session, I felt the Lord wanted me to receive that same blessing!

When I came home, the 3 lilies are still going strong reminding me that there is always a resurrection after the darkness, a rainbow after the storm. I just need to keep my eyes on Him and know that He is with me, and goes before me.

It is weekends like this where I feel the love of our triune God ... and want that to last all week!

Plus I got to work with a new client on anti-inflammatory plan so they can get pain-free for their knee replacement... plus I got to pray with them! bonus

Lately, I have had clients who have been dismissed by their practitioner, like their symptom isn't valid because they haven't seen it before. Or they have been given a big list of supplements and expensive lab testing without actually working on the foundational issue.

Often the root issue is a foundational disconnect.

-- You cannot fix a poor nutritional foundation with just supplements.

I can make a lot of money selling supplements, but if I do not help you eat more real food, balance your blood sugar to balance hormones or help you sleep better to manage stress better, then I am doing you a disservice. It can be a quick fix, but supplements are to add to a good nutrition foundation!

I listen to you.
I keep asking questions so we get to the real reason your symptoms exist.
I help you find the best options for you and your body so it can heal from inside out. We discuss them so you can choose better and feel better beyond right now.

Often it is stress creating the symptoms. Not because stress is bad, but because how we deal with the stress often triggers binge eating, blood sugar swings, poor digestion and as it keeps building, poor sleep quality, poor recovery and more symptoms...more binge eating..more of the things that take you away from better health.

Did you know? eating more real food, balancing the blood sugar, drinking more water and getting better quality sleep are some of the foundational things that will lower stress...and will help resolve the symptoms because it alleviates some of that stress on the body.

If you have been dismissed, not heard or sold a ton of supplements, reach out so you can get the help you need and help you rebuild the foundation of health on nutrition and lifestyle changes that work for you.

Call me and you can experience what my client said 'We need more practitioners like you who listen...and work on the foundation first!'

What drives me crazy is how practitioners lead with supplements and their own protocols rather than workoing on the health foundation!

Last week someone came into the store I work at showing me a whole list of supplements she got from her fertility doc.
I asked, as I would anyone, 'Are they doing anything with nutrition, how you eat or balancing blood sugar? I am just curious so I can help you better'

Nope, apparently that comes later after I get these 9 supplements.

---
Yesterday I got a call from one of my clients, also fertility related, but we HAVE changed her nutrition, including stress management techniques like mindful eating - be present to the meal, chew your food, include bitter foods and chew for a minute, remove distractions and really enjoy the meal.

She was having heartburn issues, which resolved, and on our last session, hives developed. As I kept asking questions, I got a clearer idea of what was really going on....the hives are from a medication...for fertility...but this client is also using a lot of anti-inflammatory supplements to calm the hives. They worked, while off the medication and now, even with the supplements, the hives are back with a vengeance.

Hmm, but her practitioner dismissed the symptom saying 'we've never seen that before and we've worked with 100's of clients....'

This bothers me and makes me frustrated for the client!

So we went over the issue, weighed pros and cons, discussed how the reaction now warrants extra supplementation and extra cost, and to ask if there is a different option as this is NOT working! They see that practitioner tomorrow...

She said
'we really need to be more practitioners like you who work on rebuilding the foundation first and listen to their clients/ patients! You have been so helpful. I feel so much better just having you to talk this out with! '

If you want to be heard, want your foundation rebuilt on nutrition first over supplementation, then reach out so you can feel better for good...for life not just right now. Same client said, just changing how I eat was transformational!
