September 1st marks the beginning of fall—but it also marks a far more significant date in history.

On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland, beginning the Second World War in Europe. What followed became one of the largest and most devastating conflicts in human history, spanning six years and touching nearly every corner of the globe.

Today, we remember those who served, fought, sacrificed, and lived through those years.

In remembrance, here are a few photos of some of the World War II-era equipment we have the privilege of preserving, maintaining, and keeping operational. Rather than existing only as static displays, these pieces of history remain active and available for experiences—giving people an opportunity to see, hear, and feel a tangible connection to the machines and history of that generation.

History deserves to be remembered—and whenever possible, preserved.
