This morning Robert came for breakfast and gave me and Ron a refresher on Air Layering to root fig trees. Thanks Robert!

The Winter Squash are coming up. Now the battle begins. I’m fighting extreme temperatures, over 100 for several days, hungry critters, and squash vine borers. The vine borers are the worst!

Does anyone have a successful way of preventing them?

It seems strange to me that the middle of summer is the time to plant winter squash!

There is a narrow window between when the squash bugs stop laying eggs and when it is too late for the squash to mature before a freeze. Now is the time!

Vine borers are still a major concern though.

I’m trialing several varieties. A few I have grown before and are pretty resistant to the vine borers. I’m hoping to find more.

I know zucchini is not a winter squash but this is a good time to plant it too.

After being away for 10 days, it was awesome to come home to this bounty! Thanks again Robert for caring for the garden while we were away.

While we have been away on vacation, we were incredibly blessed to have a new friend carrying for the garden. We are so grateful for Robert and his family. They have kept the produce picked and found a good home for it.

Angel has also been taking care of our animals. They can be a handful! She has done her best, even with a tough one like Jimmy Dean, and chickens trying to fly the coop!
