What working breeds do we keep brining home?

The intelligence of the Border Collie.
The endurance of the Husky.
The connection of the Doberman.
The versatility of the German Shepherd.

The toughness of the Cattle Dog.
None of them behave the way they do by accident.

Generations of selection helped build dogs capable of thinking, moving, working, adapting and performing specific jobs.
Bringing those dogs into our homes does not erase their history.

But our question is: What did the general public LEARN from watching him?

Because we hope it was more than, “I want a German Shepherd.”

We hope people saw the intelligence.
The athleticism.
The relationship between dog and handler.
The communication that can happen without a word being spoken.

The resilience, environmental awareness and sheer capability working dogs can possess.

But we also hope people understand that dogs like this don’t simply happen.

German Shepherds were developed to WORK.
And the characteristics that make these dogs so impressive on screen can come with very real needs at home: training, structure, movement, mental work, appropriate outlets, recovery, biological fulfillment and a human willing to learn the dog standing in front of them.

Movies have an incredible ability to make people fall in love with a breed.

And that’s exactly why conversations like this are so important.

Admiring a working breed should be the beginning of learning about them, not the end.

If Heart of the Beast introduced more people to the incredible capability of working dogs, we hope it also inspires people to learn what comes with owning one.
