A little change of altitude—and attitude! 😎🏔️

Spending the weekend with my wife in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, and I had to stop by Custer Peak to check out the weather station and anemometer at an elevation of 6,790 feet.

After being in the Texas oven, it felt REALLY good to take a break from the heat for a few days! 🌬️☀️

Great views, cool mountain air, and even better company. ❤️

🌀 TROPICAL UPDATE | August 9

The Atlantic is getting more active with two areas to watch:

🟡 Disturbance #1: A tropical wave in the central Atlantic has a near 0% chance of development over the next 48 hours and a 20% chance over 7 days. Some gradual development is possible early this week.

🟠 Disturbance #2: Another tropical wave is expected to move off Africa early this week. Conditions could become more favorable for development, with a 40% chance over 7 days.

🌴 For Southeast Texas: Neither system poses an immediate threat to the Texas coast. Both are still well out in the Atlantic, and it's much too early to discuss specific impacts here.

We’ll continue watching the tropics closely as we move deeper into August.

🌦️ WEEKEND WEATHER | SOUTHEAST TEXAS

Rain chances return this weekend, but don’t expect an all-day washout. Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms will develop, with some locations getting a quick downpour while others stay dry.

🌧️ The biggest concern will be locally heavy rain, lightning & gusty winds in stronger storms.

🌧️ RAIN CHANCES INCREASE ACROSS SE TEXAS

A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible each afternoon through early next week. Most locations will likely see little or no rain, but where storms develop, brief heavy downpours could produce 1–2"+ locally.

Rainfall will be highly uneven, so don’t count on a widespread soaking just yet.

Today we checked a Houston icon off our bucket list.

and I are both native Houstonians, yet somehow today was our very first visit to Barbecue Inn on Crosstimbers—on its final day in business.

Was it hot? Absolutely. Was the 2½-hour wait worth it? Without a doubt.

The fried chicken is everything people have said for decades—crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and every bit as good as its legendary reputation.

Thanks you Martha (4 year veteran) for the great service!

It's bittersweet that our first visit also had to be our last. Places like Barbecue Inn are more than restaurants—they're part of Houston's story, woven into generations of family dinners, celebrations, and memories.

Sad to see another Houston institution close its doors. Thank you for the memories, even if we only got to make one of our own today. ❤️🍗

🌤️ Saturday Weather Update | Southeast Texas

A few isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible across Southeast Texas today, but most locations will remain dry. If a storm does develop, it could produce brief heavy rain, lightning, and a temporary cooldown. Some drier air may also filter into areas north of Houston behind a weak boundary.

🌡️ A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 PM to 7 PM for much of the region. Heat index values are expected to reach 107° to 110°, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks if you're outside, and keep an eye on the sky if you hear thunder.

🌧️ Tropical Storm Bertha Rainfall Totals – Harris County 🌧️

Tropical Storm Bertha delivered beneficial rainfall across Harris County, but totals varied considerably depending on where the heaviest rain bands moved inland.

📍 Check out the rainfall map to see how much rain fell in your neighborhood!

The rainfall helped replenish soil moisture and provided temporary relief from the recent heat, but also led to pockets of street flooding where the heaviest bands stalled. Fortunately, the storm's steady movement helped limit more significant flooding concerns.

Did you measure rainfall at your home? Share your total and location in the comments! ⬇️
