50+ years of combined experience, 2 full-time staff, 5 part-time staff, and over 20 volunteers.

That’s the team behind Recovery for Life’s compassionate care. Led by Dr. Paul Hardy and Assistant Director Suzie Hardy, we provide peer support groups, affordable treatment services, and sober living homes for approximately 100 to 120 people each week and more than 500 each year in the Hampton Roads community.

At Recovery for Life, we know healing takes people who show up with skill, compassion, and accountability. If you’d like to support this work, give here: https://givebutter.com/wLqYWy

What does science-based addiction support actually look like?

At Recovery for Life, we pair comprehensive assessments, licensed counseling, peer support, and family education to meet people with real tools for recovery. Each week, our relapse-prevention groups help participants identify triggers, build coping strategies, strengthen emotional regulation, and practice healthier decision-making.

The results matter. About 95% of participants graduate after completing 12-24 sessions and passing 2-3 urine screens, and at least 95% show improved emotional wellness and coping skills.

💎✨ A Night of Hope, Purpose & Impact ✨💎

What an incredible evening at the 2026 Diamonds in the Rough Gala! Held September 26, this special night brought together our Recovery for Life community, supporters, sponsors, and friends—all united by a shared commitment to helping people find hope and healing.

From meaningful conversations and inspiring moments to incredible generosity, the evening was a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together for recovery. 💙

As Recovery for Life’s primary fundraiser of the year, the support raised through this event helps us provide behavioral health and recovery treatment that is available, accessible, and affordable for those who need it.

To everyone who attended, sponsored, donated, volunteered, and helped make this evening possible: thank you. Your support creates opportunities for recovery and changes lives. 🙏

💎 Here’s to a night we won’t forget—and to the lives we’ll continue to impact together.

6,000 people each year, that’s what your support makes possible.

At Recovery for Life, we provide treatment, peer recovery groups, transitional housing, youth prevention, and 24/7 phone support in Virginia Beach. Each week, about 120 people turn to us for care, with a focus on low-income adults, men re-entering society after incarceration, veterans, first responders, and African American communities.

This October, your gift helps fund counseling, peer recovery groups, youth prevention, and client subsidies so more people can access care through sliding-scale fees. Give here: https://givebutter.com/wLqYWy

A second chance at life can start with being heard.

One Recovery for Life participant shared, “This is my second chance at life! I haven't felt judged here and I get to speak openly and freely about my life's journey.” Another said they have gone over a year without trying to harm themselves because of the R4L program.

Each week, we support approximately 100 people in Virginia Beach through peer support groups, individual counseling, family prevention education, and sober living. If you want to support this work, give here: https://givebutter.com/wLqYWy

October puts prevention front and center.

National Substance Abuse Prevention Month is a time to raise awareness about preventing drug and alcohol misuse, supporting recovery, and building drug-free communities. At Recovery for Life, we know prevention, treatment, and recovery services matter, and seeking help is a meaningful first step.

You don’t have to face this journey alone. If you’d like to support this work, give here: https://givebutter.com/wLqYWy

Today, we celebrate recovery—and the courage it takes to choose a new path.

Recovery is possible. It may look different for everyone, but every step forward matters: asking for help, entering treatment, rebuilding relationships, finding purpose, and learning to live one day at a time.

Today, we honor those in recovery, those who are taking their first step, the families and loved ones who continue to support them, and the professionals and peers who walk alongside them.

There is hope beyond addiction. There is a life worth recovering. And no one has to walk the journey alone.

If you or someone you love is struggling, reach out. Your next chapter can begin today. 🙏
