Another promotion—Katie!! First brown stripe! She has been working hard on the infamous Seichin and has made some impressive progress in learning it, as well as adapting the “soft” part of this style in her sparring, Kumites, and Katas! Way to go Katie!!

Amazing turnout at the karate event at Muscles Unlimited Legacy Foundation! Thank you, Sensei Tony, for the invitation and for putting together an open mic night after. And thank you, Beachmont VFW, for letting us come in!

Sensei Tony is doing something wonderful for the martial arts community. He is running a non-profit that brings Judo to children in East Boston and Revere in incredibly affordable ways. His passion for teaching was evident the minute he stepped on the mats! Please consider donating to his program as he continues to grow into helping adults and veterans access the martial arts!

You don't see test boards like this for Gokyu (Green Belt) promotions! We had 5 senior members from URIKA attend, led by Co-Chairman and Grandmaster Jay Salhanick!

Freddy and Scotty performed very well in their tests, rising to the challenge of presenting all of their knowledge, passion, and understanding of Uechi-Ryu to this point in their training. I am so proud of their dedication, immense growth from when they first started training a year ago, and their continued desire to learn and improve! I can't wait to see how they deepen their development from now to brown belt!

Griffin had to tackle a different set of nerves and pressure as he tested for his Jr. Shodan--we do not give adult ranks to students under the age of 16, therefore they are awarded the rank of Jr. Shodan. There is no difference, at least in this dojo, of the testing requirements--Griffin was tested with the adult curriculum and was tested with adults as partners!! Again, not an easy thing to do. I am very proud of Griffin's ability to rise to the challenge, his growth as a student, and that he was already identifying what he would like to do different for when he tests for his adult rank in a few years--he hasn't even had his Jr. Shodan belt for 24hrs yet!

Students like these make being an instructor really special! I am grateful for them all and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them! Congratulations to you three, as well as the rest of the students in the program who also work hard both on and off the mats!
