Trash fee increases $59 per quarter
A fee increase to cover increasing expenses for trash and recycling curbside pickup were approved by the Select Board Monday night.
A new rate is set annually by the Select Board at a public hearings typically held at the last meeting prior to the end of the current fiscal year on June 30.
Interest was high on the topic given the proposed rate change and a program change from manual barrel disposal to automated disposal with special trash and recycling carts. An overflow crowd spilled into the hallway outside Room 14 at Town Hall. Several dozen people also tuned virtually.

The North Reading Fire Department extricated a United States Postal Service employee whose hand became stuck in a piece of mail sorting machinery Monday night at the postal facility on Main Street.
At 11:23 p.m. on June 15, North Reading, MA Firefighters Local 1857 was dispatched to the USPS Middlesex/Essex Processing and Distribution Center, located at 76 Main St., for report of a woman with her hand caught in a machine.
