A great dance studio is built on more than great classes—it starts with a strong team.
Last Friday, our staff stepped out of the studio and into an Escape Room for our Team Development Day. It was an evening filled with problem-solving, communication, laughter, and teamwork—qualities that we strive to bring into every class we teach.
Investing in our staff means investing in our dancers. When we learn, grow, and challenge ourselves together, we’re better equipped to create a positive, supportive, and encouraging environment for every student who walks through our doors.
A special thank you to our amazing staff for embracing every challenge (and for escaping the clock tower just in time! 😉).

💙✨Today, I had the privilege of cheering on my goddaughter, Deanna, at Turn It Up Nationals via livestream. While I couldn’t be there in Connecticut, I was celebrating every moment from home!
What an incredible day!

🌟 Most Entertaining Award out of more than 800 novice, intermediate, and competitive solo, duo, and trio entries for dancers ages 12 and under.
Deanna, I am beyond PROUD of you. These awards are a reflection of your hard work, your dedication, and the joy you bring every time you step on stage. It has been such a privilege to watch you grow—not only as a dancer, but as a confident, kind, and remarkable young person.
I can only imagine what this moment felt like for your mom—watching you achieve such an incredible milestone. What a proud and unforgettable day for your family. 💙

✨ What a fantastic week at our Pop Star Takeover Summer Camp! ✨
From dancing and games to crafts, laughter, new friendships, and our fabulous Pop Star Fashion Show, this week was filled with unforgettable memories. Watching our campers step onto the red carpet with confidence, creativity, and so much personality was the perfect way to end an amazing week! ⭐🎤✨
A heartfelt THANK YOU to our incredible camp staff—Miss Olivia, Miss Shannon, and Miss Eva. Your energy, creativity, patience, and encouragement made this week so special. We couldn’t have done it without you! 💙
To all of our amazing campers and families, thank you for spending part of your summer with us. We loved every minute and can’t wait to see you again!
🎸 There’s still room in our Retro Rewind Summer Camp, August 3–7! This full-day camp for ages 9–11 is packed with dancing, games, creativity, and a blast from the past through the music and fun of the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s.

Some dancers never really leave your heart. 💙
Today, I was lucky enough to welcome Kseniya back to Step By Step during a visit home from North Carolina.
Kseniya spent over a decade growing up in our studio. Although she moved to North Carolina a couple of years ago, this would have been the year we celebrated her graduation as one of our Senior Dancers.
Watching her dance again brought back so many memories. As she performed her senior solo, I couldn’t help but tear up. In an instant, I could still picture the little dancer in the pink leotard walking through our studio doors for the very first time.
Dance is about so much more than technique. It’s about the relationships we build, the confidence we discover, and the memories that stay with us long after the music ends.
Before she left, it felt only right to give Kseniya the Senior Graduate gift she would have received this year. It may have come a couple of years later than expected, but it came with just as much love.
Thank you for stopping by and reminding me why I love what I do. Once you’re part of the Step By Step family, you’ll always have a place here.
We are so proud of the incredible person you’ve become, Kseniya, and we can’t wait to see where life takes you next. 💙

✨ Exciting things are happening at Step By Step! ✨
After years of countless classes, rehearsals, performances, laughter, and memories, our dance floors are getting a fresh new finish!
We’re hard at work preparing our studio for another incredible season because every dancer deserves a beautiful, safe, and inspiring place to learn, grow, and belong.
At Step By Step, dance is more than steps…it’s home. 💙
We can’t wait to welcome both returning and new families through our doors this fall!

Yesterday we celebrated 30 years of Step By Step with our recital, Finding Oz… and I’m still trying to take it all in.
Throughout the night and afterward, so many people congratulated me on “a job well done,” but my response is always the same… I could never do this alone.
Step By Step has always been about community. Yes, we have an incredible staff of teachers, but this studio is held together by so many people behind the scenes who give their hearts, time, talent, energy, and love year after year.
First and foremost, I need to thank Miss Demetra. At the beginning of this season, I told her I didn’t want this recital to be about me. I wanted it to honor the kids because without them, there would be no Step By Step and there would be no me.
What I didn’t know was that she had secretly been working on the most beautiful surprise tribute video honoring my 30 years at the studio. The video played during our Musical Theater piece choreographed by Demetra to Home Sweet Home as part of our Finding Oz theme.
While it played on the big screen… I cried. I’m still crying.
She captured moments and memories that reminded me just how much life has happened inside these studio walls. And truthfully, for at least the last decade or so Demetra has played such an instrumental role in the growth of this studio and supporting my vision.
And while Demetra leads so much of that work, she certainly doesn’t do it alone.
Miss Tracy, Miss Zoe, Miss Sophia, Miss Nathalie, Miss Shannon, and Miss Olivia… the future of Step By Step is incredibly bright because of all of you. To watch former students grow into powerful teachers, choreographers, mentors, and role models has been one of the greatest gifts of my career.
The behind-the-scenes support this weekend was equally incredible. We probably had close to 25 volunteers helping us through dress rehearsal and recital day — many of whom return year after year not because they have to, but because they genuinely want to be part of this community.
After the show, alumni gathered together to reminisce, laugh, dream, eat, drink, and yes… dance the night away. We talked about the past, but we also talked about the future and how we continue growing this very special place together.
There just aren’t enough ways to say thank you to every person who deserves it.
But what I do know for certain is this:
Step By Step is special.
And maybe every studio thinks they have something special… but there is truly something different about the kids who walk through our doors and the families who support them. The love, loyalty, kindness, and sense of community here is something I never take for granted.
Thank you for trusting us with your children for 30 years.Thank you for growing with us. Thank you for believing in what we do.
And finally — to all our families and alumni — if you took photos or videos this weekend, please tag either the studio account or my personal account. Truthfully, I was so busy throughout the weekend that I barely took any pictures for myself. I’ll do my best to repost and share throughout the long weekend, but I’m still emotionally taking it all in, so it may take me a couple of days to catch up.
My heart is so full. BRAVO dancers!!!! Thank you for an unforgettable 30th recital. 💙

Step By Step families — don’t forget to register/order your dancer’s recital photos through Mark Lawrence Photographers before Picture Day on Wednesday, May 20th.
✨ Group and individual photos will be taken
✨ Family/sibling photos are also available
✨ Please review the attached schedule for your dancer’s assigned time
Dancers should arrive photo-ready in full costume, hair, makeup, tights, shoes, and accessories.
We can’t wait to capture these special memories from our 30th season together. 💙
