That “easy $500” could actually cost you. 🚩

College students, there’s a scam making the rounds that may look like a harmless message from another student.

Here’s how it works:
🎨 Someone contacts you through your school email or a student chat forum, claiming to be an art student.
📸 They ask to use one of your photos for a painting and offer to pay you for it.
💵 They may ask for your online banking information to send the payment, or they may email you a check to deposit.

🚩 Here’s the catch: The check is fraudulent.

After you deposit it, the scammer may ask you to send money to another person or account for “art supplies,” shipping or other expenses.

You send the money, then the fraudulent check is returned. That means you could end up owing your financial institution the money you sent.

Protect yourself:
🚫 Don’t deposit the check.
🚫 Don’t share your online banking information.
🚫 Don’t send money if they ask.
✅ Block the sender & report the message.

And as a general rule, avoid clicking links from people you don’t know. If something feels off, it’s always better to pause & verify before clicking.

Already deposited the check or shared your information? Contact your financial institution immediately and report it.

And if you know a college student, share this with them! A message that looks like an easy way to make a little money can turn into a costly scam. 💛
