Today our friends and 2025 Macomb Business Award winner, Merit Manufacturing hosted approx. 40 students from Chippewa Valley High School and provided a unique experience and view into what they do every day. Thank you for opening your doors and being a part of !

Manufacturing Day here in Macomb County is about opening doors and showing our students what is possible. When a student walks into a facility, sees the technology, meets the people behind the products and experiences manufacturing firsthand, it can change the way they think about their future.

More than 2,000 students are getting that opportunity this week, and that is only possible because of the incredible partnership between our schools, our local manufacturers and our Macomb County Planning & Economic Development team. We are proud to connect our young people with the people and companies helping build what’s next.

Opening Day at Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD) is always one of our favorite traditions, and this year’s celebration was another great one!

With the theme “America 250...Learning, Leading and Liberty for All,” we celebrated the students and staff who make Macomb County schools so special, along with outstanding local businesses being recognized for their support of education and the community they serve. And it wouldn't be MISD Opening Day without the incredible student performances to bring the energy to the big top!

For 35 years, the Senior Fun Fest, hosted by our Macomb County Senior Services team, has brought seniors and caregivers together to connect, learn about local resources and enjoy a great afternoon at the Macomb Community College Lorenzo Cultural Center. This tradition continues to make a difference, and we’re proud to celebrate another year with our active and engaged seniors who make Macomb County such a special place to live and call home.

We recently got out on the Clinton River with the Clinton River Watershed Council and our Macomb County Planning & Economic Development PNR team to get a firsthand look at river conditions and experience one of Macomb County’s great natural assets.

I am happy to report the section we paddled was clean and clear of debris. There’s nothing like getting out on the water to see what makes the Clinton River such an important part of our community.

Great to meet up with our friends at SMART and hit the road to experience the new SMART Flex service zone in northern Macomb County that will be operated by Richmond Lenox EMS (RLEMS) through SMART's Community Partnership Program (CPP). Of course, we had to grab some refreshing Slurpees!

This on-demand service is another way to connect residents with jobs, appointments, shopping and other everyday destinations, especially in areas where traditional fixed-route service may not be practical.

It was great to see firsthand how SMART Flex is helping expand transportation options for Macomb residents.

Please welcome Jack, our newest member of the Macomb 100 Club!

A proud University of Michigan graduate, Navy veteran, talented artist and lifelong athlete, Jack has spent a century staying active and giving back to his community. He volunteered as an adult literacy tutor, served at St. Joseph’s Hospital and was a Senior VIP Volunteer for Macomb County.

Jack stayed active in golf, tennis, bowling, swimming and even deep-sea diving, playing sports well into his 90s. He also earned gold and silver medals in table tennis at the Michigan Senior Olympics!

And perhaps his best longevity secret? Stay active, stay involved and keep laughing.

Happy 100th birthday, Jack!
