Chispa builds the power of Latinx and communities of color in the fight for climate justice. ⚡️🌿 In the environmental community, Chispa is unique.

Latinx and BIPOC communities are disproportionately exposed to pollution and toxins on the job, at school, and in our homes. Often the first and worst hit by the effects of climate change, it’s no surprise that people of color are also some of the strongest advocates for climate action, strongly advocating for and supporting government action to protect la Madre Tierra. Not only are people of color affected, but they care greatly about the issues plaguing their communities and others from dirty air to pesticide and toxic exposures to a lack of clean energy resources and healthy communities to live and play in. The Chispa approach is an approach born out of of Latinx and BIPOC communities putting solutions on the table, making our community’s political power seen, heard and felt by decision makers across the nation and in the seven states – Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Nevada, and Maryland – where Chispa programs are underway. It is more important than ever to ensure that our families have a strong voice in the decisions and policies that impact their communities and the environment that we all depend on. Moreover, it is imperative that the environmental movement better represents the diversity of our nation, and reflects the solutions necessary to confront the legacy of environmental injustices that disproportionately impact BIPOC and Latinx communities. We are one of the only environmental programs truly engaged in traditional community organizing, and who builds the capacity of Latinx families to influence policy makers and pressure polluters to protect communities’ rights to clean air and water, healthy neighborhoods and a safe climate for generations to come. In the long term, we’re committed to building powerful communities whose environmental voice cannot be ignored.

Voting is one way to participate in our democracy, but our voices matter before and after Election Day, too.

Learning who represents us, following decisions happening in our communities, attending public meetings, contacting elected officials, and speaking up about the issues affecting our families are all ways to participate.

This Latino Heritage Month, we’re celebrating the power of staying informed and engaged in the decisions that shape our communities. 💚

Civic engagement, but make it a group project. 😌

Remind your friends. Remind your cousins. Remind the group chat. Check your registration and make a plan to vote this November. 🗳️

Because our comunidad shows up. ✊🏽

Water is part of so many moments that make up our lives. 💧

It’s in the cafecito we share, the recipes passed down through generations, the food we grow, the places we gather, and the ways we keep our families cool on hot days.

Clean, accessible water makes all of this possible and every community deserves it.

Protecting our water means protecting our health, our cultura, our communities, and the places we love.

💬What does water make possible for you?

You don’t need a special title to care about conservation. 🌎💚

If you care about clean air, clean water, your neighborhood park, our public lands, or making sure future generations can enjoy the outdoors. You already understand what’s at stake.

Conservation is about protecting the places we love and the communities that call them home.

What’s something you want to protect for the next generation? 👇🏽

Latino Heritage Month is about more than celebrating where we come from. 💚 It’s about how we show up for one another, care for our communities, and use our collective power.

Our cultura lives in our stories, our families, our neighborhoods, and the ways we keep showing up, especially when our voices matter most.

We come from generations who showed up for one another. Now it’s our turn.

This isn’t just happening in one state.

Across the country, families are being asked to pay more just to meet their basic needs—while powerful corporations continue putting profits first.

But our communities aren’t staying silent. 📣

We’re organizing, showing up, sharing our stories, and holding utilities and decision-makers accountable.

Because our families deserve more than just getting by. We deserve affordable energy, healthy communities, and a future where our families can thrive.

People over profits. Our families over billionaires. Siempre. 💚

Siempre. 💚

This is what community power looks like. 💚

It looks like meeting your neighbors where they are.

At schools. At community events. At the farmers market.

It looks like parents and community leaders having conversations about the air our kids breathe and advocating for cleaner, electric school buses. 🚌⚡

It looks like families learning about solar energy, energy efficiency, clean transportation, and resources that can help build healthier communities.

It happens when communities learn together, organize together, and speak up together.

What does community power look like where you live? 💚
