Fine art in several disciplines: painting, photography, limited edition prints and sculpture. Art consultant to Crowell & Moring, Washington, D. C.

When Addison/Ripley Fine Art was established in 1981 in a large, historic carriage house at 9 Hillyer Court, behind the Phillips Collection, partners Sylvia Ripley and Christopher Addison already had an ambitious agenda for the gallery. Now, as one of Washington, D.C. ‘s foremost contemporary galleries housed in premium space in Upper Georgetown at Book Hill, the gallery continues to thrive and to present challenging and familiar art works in expansive exhibits throughout the year. We feature changing exhibitions of work by leading area and internationally recognized artists as well as work by younger, emerging artists. Work in all media is represented in the gallery and styles range from traditional landscape to overall abstraction. The gallery displays work in large scale: painting, photography, drawing and sculpture, and more modest scale in those same mediums. The gallery frequently arranges exhibits in other spaces for our clients and artist. Among the services available through the gallery for private clients, other art consultants, interior decorators and corporate entities are art acquisition and sale for private and corporate clients and consultations for placement, lighting, framing and value. We buy and sell at auction on behalf of clients and offer professional advice in this area for our clients. In addition, we work extensively with colleagues throughout the United States and the world, extending our reach and ability to offer our clients the finest work available anywhere. Since 1986, the gallery has been an active member of the Art dealers Association of Greater Washington. Art consultant and curator to the Warner Building, Washington, D.C. Art consultant to the German Marshall Fund, Washington, D.C. Art consultant to Cadwalader, Wickershan & Taft, Washington, D. Opening night for Studio Hours / After Hours by photographer E Brady Robinson (E Brady Robinson )

--About--

For the past decade, Professor E. Brady Robinson has photographed Baltimore's creative community through portraiture, editorial collaborations, and documentary work. Moving between the controlled environment of the studio and the city's music venues, galleries, and performance spaces, these photographs celebrate agency, individuality, and the energy of the people who shape Baltimore's cultural landscape.

Studio Hours / After Hours brings together studio portraits, album cover collaborations, and photographs from Robinson's archive documenting Baltimore Club culture. Featured throughout the exhibition are Underground Club Queen Kotic Couture, filmmaker, musician, and director of Dark City Baltimore, TT The Artist, and Ballroom ICON Marquis Clanton of the House of Revlon. The documentary photographs were made at venues including The Crown, Metro Gallery, and Creative Alliance, documenting the people and places that continue to define Baltimore's creative community.

Professor Robinson is an Adjunct Professor in Georgetown University’s Department of Art and Art History, teaching the Senior Project Seminar.

The Future of the Gallery Is Not Screen-Only 🎨

Digital discovery may introduce us to an artist, but the gallery still delivers the moment that a screen cannot: the shift in scale, the texture of a surface, and the atmosphere around a work. At Addison/Ripley Fine Art, the Corner reflects this evolving model with reworked lighting, an expanded lower level, and windows that keep the gallery visible after hours.

Artists such as Robin Bell, Matt Curry, and Jonathan Monaghan show how digital practices can gain new depth in a physical setting. Alongside a highly curated selection of contemporary art, the gallery offers art consultations and virtual installations, making it easier for collectors to explore distinctive, innovative work before bringing it into their own spaces. FAL, or Fine Art Ledger, tags add accessible provenance information, because confidence is part of the experience too. The screen can make the introduction, but presence gets the final word.

1. Physical viewing reveals details a screen can flatten, from monumental scale to subtle texture and the relationship between artwork and space.

2. Digital tools, including virtual installations and accessible provenance information, help collectors make more informed decisions without losing the warmth of personal discovery.
